Our London contributor Gillian Brett, shares her edit of must-have boots that will see you walking into autumn winter in style.

The Acne pistol boot and its plethora of imitations (yes we love them and bought ‘em) have pretty much dominated boot trends for the past few seasons. However, this season has introduced some fresh new options for stomping around in – each stemming from the military and equestrian trends.
Our new uniform offers three styles that look set to direct our autumn/winter outerwear:
Ankle boots
The first is an ankle boot with a small, stacked heel and metal-tipped ankle strap; see the Chloe autumn runway as a reference point. Topshop have of course hit the nail on the head with their metallic-trimmed boots that come in black and tan (£120/€150). Reiss have also done a great interpretation of the trend, though with a slightly less ‘everyday’ heel height (£195/€245 pictured top right).
Riding Boot
The second style to look out for this season is a flat and sturdy-looking riding boot, typically with a spur-style detail at the heel in a style that’s fresh from the Gucci runway. The nicest we’ve found in the shops is a pair of Carvela riding boots in Brown Thomas (£200/€250) and a butter-soft brown leather pair in Next (£90/€115)
For that Chanel quilted boot look, try these Daniele Ancarani Black Quilted Leather Boot at Cocobelle.
For a plain black leather riding boot, try Clarks Knight Hood riding boot – it is our editor’s riding boot of choice (£99/€120).
Over-the-knee Boots
Last but definitely not least, is an over-the-knee style that’s loose on the leg and in some cases comes down to fold over the heel. The look began on the Givenchy runway with their much sought-after ‘Shark Lock Fold Over Wedge Boots’. Now a firm celeb favourite – Kim Kardashian’s even bought two different colours of the €1,400 boots – they are yet to be broadly reinterpreted by the highstreet. Zara were first in with their gorgeous trompe l’oeil fold over version.
Over the knee flat boots are plentiful and a great weekend look – just look at Olivia Palermo who has been sporting the look for some time now (pictured main image centre). Steve Madden and Sam Edelman at Arnotts have some fabulous over the knee flat styles while over the knee with heels are always popular – try Aldo and Brian Atwood or Kurt Geiger at BTs.
