Ask the Stylist: The White Shirt

Thanks to Coco Chanel, Katherine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn the white shirt went from the professional male shirt to a  women’s wardrobe staple.  It has continued to be a classic piece of clothiing over the years and it looks like the White Shirt will again be a key piece for SS13.

Victoria Beckham, Parkchoonmoo, Assembly and Alexander Wang all carried their version of the classic shirt in their New York Collections and it was the star on the streets of Manhattan for NY Fashion Week.

A classic white shirt is like the little black dress, it’s timeless and worth the effort to get just right. Look around and pay that little bit extra for good quality cotton, that is sharp, crisp and a clean white (you don’t want a blue tinge from the white!).

You can always pick up a white shirt on the high street too. This one by Urban Outfitters, fits the bill perfectly.

I’m a big fan of the oversized long white shirt, as seen looking effortless on one of the original beauties- Audrey Hepburn.
