A classic chic look like that of Anne Hathaway at The Golden Globes 2009 (pictured top) and The Oscars 2009 (pictured bottom) is often described as “old Hollywood glamour”.
Think of Irish actress Holly White (of Dan & Becks fame) who is a dark brunette, has white porcelain skin and blue eyes – this is essentially what is described as “typical Irish colouring”. If you are like Holly, this classic look is easily achieved and you are the perfect canvass for piller box red lipstick. Make sure you choose a blue-red lipstick if you have pale, Irish colouring (as opposed to an orangey-red lipstick which can be worn by sallower types).
Anne Hathaway’s classic look on the red carpet consists of red lips, porcelain complexion, and black liner which, at The Oscars, complemented her Armani Privé gown. The whatshewears.ie in house stylist has put together Anne’s look using the following products, focusing on eyes and lips to get an overall striking look.
Makeup
Complexion: For a fresh look use Lancôme Effacernes Concealer in Ivoire under the eyes.
Eyes: Next apply Chanel Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Slate to the crease and lower lash line. Give your lashes some drama with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler applying lots of layers layers of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. Alternatively, use The Body Shop black liquid eyeliner by for a dramatic sweep along the upper lash line. Keep the rest of the lid monocoloured using either a white or pink shade.
Cheeks: Sweep Chanel Powder Blush in Nude onto the cheeks followed by Lancôme Absolute Powder in Absolute Peche to the apples of the cheeks.
Lips: Choose from the higher end Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick in Lotus Rouge or a more affordable, widely available option such is Rimmel London’s Diva Red (500).
Hair
Using Anne Hathaway 2009 Golden Globes look as our inspiration for old Hollywood glamour hair, we would describe this as a pulled-back chignon hairstyle. Here you can get this chic style for yourself by following these steps:
Apply a lifting hair gel from roots to ends.
Next, comb hair into a very deep side parting and dry with a large paddle brush. Gather your hair in a low ponytail, applying a tiny blob of finishing serum by John Frieda for shine and texture.
Secure with an elastic hair band at the nape of the neck and tuck the ponytail underneath. Use some hair pins will keep it in place. To complete this Old Hollywood Look, spray it with lots of hairspray. And voila, you get a chic and slick, glamourous hairstyle.
