The little blue dress is fast becoming this season’s answer to the little black dress.
We’ve been bombarded with a-listers wearing cobalt blue in recent weeks – and especially in short shift style dresses.
Sarah Jessica Parker wears her new collaboration label – Halston Heritage Side shirred day dress ($295) with a black blazer, while Hilary Swank wore an Elie Saab number from their autumn winter 09 collection.
Balmain’s short sequin dress in cobalt blue for autumn winter 2009 was quickly endorsed by the fashion set and long-sleeve mini dresses became a fashion must-buy (see our Autumn 09 Trends feature). French Connection was quick to jump to the Balmain look with their own marine blue sequin dress (pictured).
Perfect for a girls’-night-out, I suggest pairing this short glitzy style with some studded platform shoes (again a la Balmain where studded sandals are still big news).
Not so keen on the mini dress length? Then stick to shift dresses. As well as Halston Heritage at Shopbop you’ll find the following options in store right now:
V-neck shift, Debenhams, £22.50, €25.50
Cobalt one shoulder shift dress, Debenhams, £40, €45.34
Cobalt Blue Shift Dress, Next, £55, €62.34
Luckily this shade of blue suits almost everyone and the key to pulling off a cobalt blue dress is to go for low key accessories – if it’s a simple cut, then pair with silver, black or nude.
