Spree versus Steal: Wedge Heels

Rejoice, because the wedge heel is back for this season after a major outing on the spring summer catwalks. The difference this time around is that they‘ve gone from chunky to slender – in fact fashion editors have dubbed them the “sledge”.

Not that you need any excuse to shop, but here are three reasons why the wedge heel is a winner:

• Nude –the skin  colour will lengthen your legs
• It’s a shoe that you can walk, and even run in
• It’s the perfect accompaniment to this seasons maxi skirts and dresses, giving even shorties the much needed height to pull off the long skirt length

A firm fan of this heightened heel here at WhatSheWears, the plush suede bootie wedge we’ve chosen is designed by Sergio Rossi and has a zipped heel (€750, Fitzpatrick’s Shoes) and at the recessionista end of the scale you’ll find a similar pair in Penneys/Primark for €23, also with a zipped back.

Whichever one you chose, wear your nude sandals with:

• City shorts and a blazer for a smart look
• With denim cut offs and a vest for a laid back vibe
• Under your maxi length skirt or dress
• With shorter hemlines for legs that look like they go on forever
