The Peter Mark VIP Style Awards took place last Friday night, 6th March at the Shelburne hotel in Dublin.
This year saw 34 nominees competing for three different categories as they battled it out for most stylish woman, man and celebrity couple. This year’s nominees included Amy Huberman, Rosanna Davison, Colette Fitzpatrick, Grainne & Sile Seoige and Victoria Smurfit. The overall winner was picked by readers of VIP magazine.
The “Irish style Oscars”, not like the award ceremonies which have passed before them in Hollywood and the UK, has been speculated upon in greater detail this year, with talks of wearing “recession friendly” outfits. So, what does this mean? Ditch the loud bling and wear gowns for the second time or borrow an outfit perhaps?
Hosted by the gorgeous Michelle Doherty, Ireland’s Most Stylish Female award went to Xposé presenter Lorraine Keane. Lorraine wore a corseted dress from Tanen Michael, proclaiming “I really wanted to win. It’s about time!”

Model Pippa O’Connor wore a cobalt blue, silk chiffon dress. Only Pippa’s figure could carry off an empire line, asymmetric style like this. Makeup wise she had nude lips, smoky eyes and a low chignon bun hairstyle.
The super sophisticated actress Victoria Smurfit looks timelessly elegant pictured here in black. It’s hard to believe that she has recently given birth and is mum to three toddlers under four years old. We love her like dark painted fingernails too!
Former Miss World, Roseanna Davison pulled out all the stops in the glamorous Ben de Lisi gown. Here Roseanna rocks two trends – purple which is the big colour this season… and ruffle, the detail this spring.
Other outfits
Sinead Desmond wore a wedding dress on loan from The White Room in Mullingar. The bride-to-be says she can’t afford to splash her cash anymore commenting “It’s worth thousands on the night but it’s all borrowed.”
Meanwhile, Georgina Ahern wore her favorite designer, Synan O’Mahony.
Colette Fitzpatrick, TV3 news anchor, glittered in a pink designer number by John McCormick who designed her wedding dress.
Despite the talk of recession fashion, we are glad to see that some people still pushed the boat out for the 2009 VIP Style Awards.
