WhatSheWears Meets Victoria Beckham

Today I got one of the limited invites of about twenty or so press who got to meet Victoria Beckham at Brown Thomas Dublin, see a fashion show of her main line and Victoria collection, get a picture taken with her and attend a Q&A between Victoria Beckham and Claire Byrne.

Security was tight and we had strict instructions to assemble in Browns Cafe at 11.30am. At midday we were escorted to the stairs in the men’s department, waiting for VB to complete a closed photocall. Then it was up to level 1 with us all where we got to check out Victoria’s dresses, military coats (costing €2,450), bags and handbags before sitting down, ready to greet her.

She arrived with baby Harper Seven, who was WALKING, and dressed in a wine coloured bow hairband, a blue dress and black shoes –  cue lots of cooing, oohing and aahing. It didn’t last long as Harper decided that running around was much more fun.

Victoria came across as very affable and she laughed and smiled lots, contrary to popular belief. Her trademark pout, or scowl even, did come into force when we had a chance to get a picture with her after the Q&A (there’s me below pictured far right pictured with Declan Leavy, VB and Rosie from Stellar Magazine). In fact her pose is visibly perfected and was switched on for all the photos.

What else can I tell you? She has the most amazing legs, they’re tanned, lean and have that definition down the side of her thigh, which was visible from time to time as she crossed and uncrossed her legs. In fact her legs were the only thing visible under a black military coat which managed to cover up her small frame. Victoria was nervous to begin with, picking at her nails at times, but soon got into the flow of answering questions and came across confidently.

As the fashion show of her autumn winter dresses got underway, she started taking pictures with her iphone and I was chuffed to see that we share the same banana phone cover!

For a woman who, as she said today, works seven days a week, her family of four kids and husband David Beckham often influence her work; Romeo wearing a baseball shirt influenced a sporty side to one of her collections and David’s obsession with beanies and hats is visible throughout her current AW12 collection.

“Any plans for a children’s wear collection Victoria?” “Not at the moment but I’d never say never. There are a lot of people who do kidswear really well. I usually design things that I can’t find myself, I started with dresses  (Victoria Beckham ready to wear launched in 2008 and  the Victoria line followed in 2011) and have eventually gotten into designing jeans (2009),  that I myself would want to wear. My sunglasses are made in Italy and are something I use to death, they’re great for disguising the sleepless nights if I’ve been up with the kids.”

A busy woman indeed. Check out the Victoria Beckham and Victoria dresses at Brown Thomas .

Heard her interview on John Murray this morning. I think she’s brilliant, fair play.

Im GREEN with envy. Sounds like a cool afternoon and I’ll be checking out her collection. Maybe I’ll buy something small (and not €2450 military coat!)
