What do you think of when you see a band emblazoned T-shirt? For me, it takes me back to the grunge days in the early Nineties, when I went to my first ever concert (Pearl Jam) wearing a Stone Roses T-Shirt. At that stage, I hadn’t ever listened to the Stone Roses, but it was the only band emblazoned T-Shirt I had at the time and I was trying my hardest to “do grunge”.
The graphic T-shirt seems self-explanatory—throw it on over your jeans, slip on your weekend shoes and go. More recently, the celebs and trendsetters of this world have been spotted wearing not just their Rolling Stones vintage T-Shirts, but all kinds of T-shirts with various designs, which have now come to be known as graphic print T-shirts.
The designer version of graphic print T-shirts like the Off the Deep End one (€68) from Marc by Marc Jacobs worn in yesterday’s article by Alexa Chung, is a tad expensive… so we’ve found a Top 5 selection of inexpensive options for you to peruse:
1.Fearne Cotton (right)
This rock chick style is inspired by British TV presenter Fearne Cotton and consists of a graphic T-shirt worn with skinny jeans. Throw a grey boyfriend style cardigan (€50) from Oasis over your ensemble and the look is complete. This Ben Sherman graphic print T-shirt (€23) pictured centre will look the part if you wan’t to steal Fearne Cotton’s style.
2. Jessica Biel (left)
As if we didn’t have enough celebrity evidence to reinforce this article, we noticed that Jessica Biel is also a fan. Seen here channelling her inner laid-backness, Biel wears a purple graphic T-Shirt.
3. Unusual print T-Shirt
Graphic tees come in all sorts of designs and cuts, so the choices are endless. I usually find some unusual prints in Zara which range from floral to Japanese style prints with cut-out backs to embellished prints. They range in price from €14.90 to €19.90 and the current collection is displayed here with cut-off denim shorts.
4. Cartoon print T-Shirt
If you’re a chick who likes to wear you tees small and tight, you can’t go wrong with a cartoon print T-Shirt. The Little Miss collection is very popular and is stocked in the kids department of Littlewoods Direct for the bargain price of €14. (Just order the largest kid’s size).
5. Retro T-Shirt
And finally for those of you who want to reminisce over your favourite rock band, film, comic or rock star, the cool people at I Love Waterloo will make one in cotton, stretch or jersey, in a girl or guy style, T-Shirt or vest cut and ship it to your door within four days.
