Red Carpet

The Oscars 2010

Finally the report you’ve been waiting for: what did the Hollywood stars wear to The Oscars 2010? I’m a tad  bleary-eyed today having stayed up until the early hours following the red carpet of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.  Catch the full cermony tonight (Monday) at 9pm on RTE2.

Overall the style was not the WOW factor that I was expecting this year, but a few ladies did stand out.

Thank God for colour, it was everywhere last night – from Maggie Gylenhaal in a tropical blue coloured Dries van Noten dress to Segourney Weaver in stunning red Lanvin.

Avatar star Zoe Saldana wowed in Givenchy Spring 2010 Couture as did Sandra Bullock in vintage Marchesa.

Nicole Richie looked oh so boho at the Oscars in her Reem Acra dress while her partner Joel Madden DJ’d during the ceremony itself.

There were plenty of nude tones too -from Demi Moore to Anna Kendrick and white gowns on Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.

Carey Mulligan, who I’ve been loving in the style stakes this year, dissapointed in all over Prada (she looked great from the waist up), it was the bottom detail in her Prada gown and odd Prada shoes which let her down. Otherwise, her earrings and makeup were fab.

Not quite right on the night? The dresses that didn’t get our votes

Mariah Carey in a navy Valentino to the knees dress. Did someone forget to let her know that slits that high just aren’t chic?

Also Charlize Theron, who normally looks stunning, did not quite get it right in a lilac satin gown with rosettes on the bust and a train – she looked like a bridemaids dress gone wrong I thought!

Check out all the photos of the dresses from the Oscars below.

Zoe Saldana’s dress is amazing looking, the contrast of cut, pattern and materials worked great!WOW! Meryl Streep looks fierce as usual.

  2. Elizabeth Says:

Thanks for staying up for us! Love Nicole Richie and Kate Winslet’s dresses. What is with Sarah Jessica Parker’s eye make-up? She looks like she has two black holes in her head!

  3. Ivana Says:

I thought it was pretty funny when Sam Worthington mentioned he was wearing payless shoes. I think they look pretty good. Thanks for the great pics!!

  4. Camilla Says:

There was alot of metallics….thought miley cyrus was trying to be too mature, for such a young girl she should have had a bit more fun with her outfit choice. Zoe Saldana wowed me, as did Sandra Bullock and as usual Meryl streep was elegant and the draping was so age appropiate. As always love SJP but have to agree with Elizabeth on her eye make up,also watching her dress on tv, the detail looked much darker than it did on photo, its very SJP and i love it. Rachel McAdams in Ellie Saab was beautiful as was Cameron Diaz in Armani Privé, i had to take a double take with Cameron, when i first saw it was like, hmmmm christmas decoration but when i saw her photographed i warmed to it more.
I know Charlize Theron is amazing and would look fab in a bin liner but the design of the bust took away from her and the rest of the dress..

  5. Annemarie Says:

Charlize choice of dress was bizarre those roses on her boobs were mad !
Agree that meryl dresses appropriately fir her age as did the ever demure Helen mitten .
I was asked on the radio this morning if I thought that the ladies were more covered up this year ? What do yer think ? Apart from mariah Carey of course !

  6. Camilla Says:

Absolutely as a whole everyone was more covered up, there was a playing it safe theme throughout. More seemed to be going for the old Hollywood glamour.

  7. Annemarie Says:

Yep agree, I said everyone was very demure alright! Just saw my typos above now, whoops! am still getting used to iphone, the keyboard is so small, I called her Helen Mitten instead of Mirren!

  8. Annemarie Says:

@Aisling: I was unsure about Zoe Saldanas dress at first, I thought it was a bit tie dye but it grew on me as it unfolded before me and made my top 4 in the end.
@Elizabeth – you’re welcome, it was my pleasure. Though I am wrecked today, ’twas worth it. MMM SJP didnt get the smokey eye quite right did she?!
@Ivana Yes I heard that, didnt know what Payless shoes were but figured it was a discount store. His girlfriend looked stunning though I didnt get the name of the Aussie designer of her dress. I wonder is it Jaton Couture or other ones which Dannii Minogue uses??

  9. Annemarie Says:

Question: So where was Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet last night? Did anyone see her at the Oscars ????

  10. Annemarie Says:

Forgot to mention in the post that Nicole Richies Oscar dress was by Reem Acra

  11. Camilla Says:

Colette Dinnigan is an Aussie Designer which is held in high esteem, it may have been her….don’t worry abt the typos u were up half the night in the name of fashion :)Didn’t see Jennifer Aniston and Greard Butler mentioned her but no sign. I know we are talking abt the ladies but one guy for me looked fab and suave as ususal and that was Tom Forde, its like he was born to wear a Tux.

  12. Annemarie Says:

    Tom Forde looked divine alright!
