Style Hotel: The Ice House

I loved staying at the Ice House Hotel.

Having once had coffee in its sister hotel Wineport Lodge and subsequently fallen in love with it to the point of considering getting married there, I was expecting great things from the place.

After a four hour trek from Dublin to Ballina, we were greeted to a glass of bubbly after checking into our room. Even the view from the room at dusk was spectular; wall to wall glass, overlooking the River Moy and all that was between the water and us was our own private deck, complete with table and chairs.

That was followed by a sumptuous meal for two, in The Pier restaurant, which was buzzing with hotel guests and locals alike – some enjoying a tapas menu and others the a la carte.

But back to the room. Not only did it have a hairdryer (big swing, most rooms do nowadays right?) it had… wait-for-it – a GHD – which impressed me to the point of using it, and L’Occitane toiletries – a real treat in itself, even if they are only miniature shampoos, conditioners, body lotion and soap.

The bed was on the right side of hard, with plush pillows. The room itself nods to a contemporary decor and includes a (huge) ensuite bathroom complete with bathtub dotted with tea light candles just asking for you to have a soak in the bath surrounded by them.

The next day I indulged in an hour long Organic Seaweed Leaf Wrap which my aching body (from running) was in need of.  Apparently sea weed detoxifies, firms, and softens the skin and the treatment includes a head massage and a slathering in Voya cream, which is made in nearby Sligo from seaweed.  I certainly felt wiped out (in a good way) afterwards as I relaxed over plenty of iced water in the chill out zone.

I had to be persuaded to use the outdoor hot tub post treatment, but the balmy (yes,  in Ireland in July!) evening and view over the river, soon had me convinced to take the plunge.

Dublin to Ballina shouldnt take more than 3.5 hours max! Its a horrible drive though (Im from Ballina and live in Dublin…)

thanks Niamh. Yes unfortunately we got stuck in rush hour traffic – you’d be amazed at the amount of backed up traffic in Longford of a Friday evening!

Lol, I know it only too well! :-) The Ice House is beautiful though. I attended a civil ceremony & wedding there on New Years Eve and it was the perfect location for an intimate gathering like that – plus the food was amazing!

Oh I’d say a wedding there would be amazing alright – very cool! The food was great, funnily enough I revel in breakfasts and theirs was top notch
