Mango, one of our favourite Spanish brands, has announced Kate Moss as the star of its new Spring/Summer 2012 campaign at its flagship Oxford Street, London store.

The retailer has chosen the British model for its campaign image because she embodies the type of urban, independent and confident woman Mango customers can relate to.

The new collections has a clear 60’s influence, particularly in the dresses and has also introduced a more casual line, bringing together ethnic elements and blending them with sportswear details to give a very simple, strong urban look.

Mary Kate Olsen

Mary Kate Olsen was one of the first to rock the over-sized clutch trend a few season’s back, wearing this Prada purse  (pictured above). Luckily large clutches are back in so if you like Mary Kate’s style, consider this natural-look, faux snakeskin clutch (£8) from Boohoo as a thrifty alternative.

For those of you who love shoes (who doesn’t?), Terry de Havilland’s towering (5 inch) wedges are hugely popular with the Brit “It” pack . Sienna Miller and Kate Moss have been wearing them religiously since 2007 whereas Mischa Barton wore the metallic snakeskin wedges to Australian fashion week in 2008.

The Margaux Pewter wedges (€525) pictured above are from Lara (1 Dame Lane, Dublin 2, 01 670 79 51), direct from Terry DeHavilland himself and in other boutiques around Ireland. Dehavilland footwear doesn’t come cheap, so you may want to wait for the summer sales.

Kate Moss at Glastonbury 2011

Fashion Icon Kate Moss embraced the mud at the weekend and worked festival chic in her usual stylish way, teaming her signature leather jacket and wellies with a pair of chic, snake print skinny jeans.

Dressed head to toe in Balmain (apart from her Hunter wellies) her outfit may be out of our price-range but we did squeal with delight when we found these Limited Collection snake print jeans for only €54 at M&S !

Meanwhile while the rest of the UK was waking up to muddier Glasto fields last Sunday, Ireland’s top model was getting ready for a day at the races at The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

We love her take on race day dressing – no matchy matchy-ness or hats in sight.  Just sky high gold wedges, a dusty pink coloured maxi and a snakeskin kimono jacket from Topshop (sadly for those of us lookin to steal her style,  it’s no longer available).

Purcell transformed her simple maxi with a kimono jacket which also nods to this season’s boudoir trend. Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate collection has many kimono options (which we recommend as an alternative to a dress, to wear to a ladies charity lunch) but you’ll also find purse friendly alternatives chez ASOS.

James Brown, the celebrity hairdresser and go-to guy of the A-list aristocracy, has cover shoot credits which read like a who’s who of the famous and fabulous – Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Sienna Miller and January Jones.

Taking a break from shooting The Great British Hairdresser TV series for E4, James was in Dublin on Monday to promote his new hair range for Boots and I caught up with him at the Dylan Hotel .

Before I met James, I’d asked on Facebook and Twitter if you had any questions for him.  “Will he do my hair for free?” was one such question, to which I answered, “Get in line!”

So here you go: your questions, asked by me, to James Brown.

WSW: What’s with the hat?
JB: It’s a work thing. For filming the new show, I thought I’d need a “look”, you know, the way Gok has his glasses, well I’ve got my hat. I’ve a long face so it helps make it look shorter.

WSW: What’s the story with your own hair?
JB: See previous answer about wearing a hat!

WSW: What are the best hair styling tips you can give any woman?
JB: Keep it simple. Don’t jump on trends so quickly. One day it’s the Jennifer Aniston ‘do (it was actually just a blow-dry he points out) and the next week it’s a pixie crop, but it doesn’t mean that it suits you.

If you’re a mum of 5 kids, you’ve gotta be practical – have you time to style and blow-dry your hair for 40 minutes every day?  If you go blonde from dark hair, are you prepared to get your roots done every four weeks? These are things you’ve gotta consider before diving in to a hairstyle.

Don’t choose a style on a whim. If you’ve got a celebrity style that you admire, don’t just bring in one picture to your stylist;  bring lots of the celebrity wearing it styled in different ways. Research is key to helping us. You can’t just walk into a salon unknown to a stylist and expect us to know your lifestyle. It’s different of course if you’ve stuck with the same hairdresser for years.

WSW: How did your collection for Boots come about?
JB: I hate the idea of celebrities selling a shampoo for, like €150 in Harvey Nics *exagerrates* so I wanted my shampoos to be reasonably priced and available somewhere accessible to everyone.

Boots is somewhere where you can pick up everything from cotton buds to cough syrup, where every walk of life goes. I wanted a loyal following and an affordable range with good ingredients – it all just came together with Boots.

WSW: How did you get into hairdressing?
JB: My three sisters and Mum all had long hair. My sister used to go to the hairdresser, get a blow dry and come home, wash it out and blow dry it herself ‘cos she didn’t like how it was done. So I started doing it for her.

WSW: What age were you then?
JB: Eight or nine. I went on to cut hair aged twelve, I cut everyone’s hair on the street.

WSW: Where did Keris get her gold, red and black striped dress from programme two of your TV series? (I’ve since discovered, when I told this reader the answer, that she has lost a ton of weight and was lusting after this dress after seeing it on TV, wanting it for her “big reveal”).
JB: It’s Vivienne Westwood. I’ve been asked a lot about that dress!

I love it when it all comes back around to fashion.

Leopard print is fully in vogue now that it’s time to think about a winter coat. As autumn winters go, the leopard print never really went away – we even dedicated an accessories report to it with tips on how to wear the big cat print.

This year on the high street, there’s lots of leopard print outerwear to choose from too – from the leopard print Mac at Dunnes Stores to this swing jacket (right) from Awear (€70), whose autumn winter collection was met with huge excitement by fashion editors and bloggers alike.

Meanwhile, the leopard jacket, which channels the swing style of the Sixty’s, reminds me of the vintage version Kate Moss pulls out year after year.

Leopard Print Accessories

It’s no secret that here at WhatSheWears.ie we are huge fans of wedges. So when I heard that Terry de Havilland finally launched an ecommerce store today, I yelped for joy!

My favourite pair of shoes in the world is a pair of red Lola wedges and until now, these 70’s inspired shoes were only sold in limited places in Ireland, (namely boutiques such as Lara where you can pay anything up to €450 for a pair of the infamous Margaux wedges).

The new online shop, called Terrydehavilland.com, sells the python Margaux style (pictured) for £370 (plus shipping) and £280 for normal (non snakeskin) style.

De Havilland has been making shoes for fifty years and first made the Margaux style back in 1973.  Since then they’ve also been seen Sienna Miller (pictured) and many a WAG alike. Singer Kate Nash even commissioned a few pairs of Terry de Havilland peep toe boots to get her “into character” on stage.

Kate Moss’s PA even rang up de Havilland herself when La Moss couldn’t find her black pair of Margaux. “We had a frantic call from Kate’s PA at 3.30am once. She needed them for a function in New York that evening,” he said. “We got them made by 10am the same morning, just in the nick of time!”

Apologies for making you jealous as you sit at your desk today, but some people are off on their holidays.

And no better people to rub it in our face than the paparazzi who love to take pics of the jet set hanging out in their bikinis.

Take for example, model Kate Moss who was seen last year holidaying in Saint Tropez (the south of France destination, not the fake tan brand).

This celeb-with-designer-holidaying is no coincidence – apparently it’s that time of year when designers are joined by famous folk on holidays – Kate Moss and her beau Jamie Hince joined designers Karen Mulder and Stefano Pilati on their yacht for a spot of topless sunbathing no less. The year before that she holidayed with Marc Jacobs and his fiancée Lorenzo Martone.

Kate Moss Bikini

We are loving her gingham and denim bikini which we found out is from the lovely lingerie people at Agent Provocateur.

Considering that the supermodel Moss launched the White Wedding lingerie collection with Agent Provocateur last year, no doubt the bikini was a freebie.

Copy Miss Moss’ yacht style with the exact match Kerry Gingham bikini bottoms  bikini top . The bottoms were €65 but are now even cheaper, as they are on sale).

For the savvy shoppers amongst you, turn to Asos, who stock a red and white gingham bikini  €61 for the top and €30.44 for the bottoms, half the price of Agent Provocateur.

Ray Ban Wayfarers

Meanwhile Kate chilled on the yacht sipping her Martini while wearing her cool Rayban Wayfarers sunglasses. 

To snap up her Ray Bans which normally retail for €139, head to the designer sunglasses boutique that is David Clulow in Kildare Village where you can nab them for €92.76.

Eva Mendez Kaftan

Later on, over at the Isle of Capri, designer duo Dolce & Gabbana were out on the water with actress Eva Mendez followed by a visit from fellow Latina Jennifer Lopez.  Eva obviously read our piece on beach cover ups and looks demure in her leopard print Kaftan.

We found a similar Kaftan to Eva’s – Melissa Obadash for sale over at The Outnet (60% off, down to €153).

Jealous, us? No.

Denim shorts for summer are nothing new. In fact they have lingered around for a long time.   But the difference now is that they are no longer confined to the beach and have made their way into our everyday summer wardrobe.

Chic girls like Chloe Sevigney and Karolina Kurkova wear high waisted shorts or tailored shorts.

Festival-goers wear short denim shorts or turned up denim shorts. But what about the rest of you who don’t fall into any of these categories?

Long Denim Shorts

Slim fitting long shorts are a great option if you don’t fancy the leg revealing short denim style. This style is long, as the names indicates, and go right to the knee. 

If you are comfortable in flats, then wear your long shorts with ballet pumps or flat Mary Janes. We prefer high platforms and a flattering blouse to turn this into a glamorous daytime look.

The most flattering pairs in this style are the dark coloured ones (sometimes called indigo denim) and are available from John Rocha at Debenhams (€41).

White Denim Shorts

White denims conjure up grown up images of city ladies and European resorts. This season white denim has stepped back into the spotlight with cropped white jeans already earmarked as one of our summer staples.

Jennifer Aniston is a fan, and wears a pair of cut off’s from Joes Jeans.  You can wear your denim cut-offs with a pair of wedges and a white handbag for lady like summer style or just flip flops if you want to go casual.

Boyfriend Denim Shorts

Boyfriend shorts are baggy and sit just above the knee. Ideally paired with a check shirt and sandals a la Katie Holmes, this makes a great run-around outfit.

City Shorts

Kate Moss (pictured) looks effortlessly hip in a pair of denim city shorts and a tailored blazer carrying a bowling as she stepped off a flight from Nice.

A couple of seasons ago the Prada turban was the must-have accessory for the Hollywood elite.
The turban saw a new found revival this week as worn by Kate Moss to the Met Gala in New York.  She can pull off almost any look donning a Stephen Jones turban with an asymmetric dress by Marc Jacobs, although we can’t say that the head gear is very flattering.

The turban is not an accessory you can wear to many events so luckily there are more glamorous head-adornments in the shops. We’ve spotted bejeweled, embellished, and ornamented headbands on the heads of a few movers and shakers lately. Here are just three:

Embellished headband

We can see why Victoria Beckham (left) is a huge fan of Alice Bands – they are great for a bad hair day, are easy to wear AND they are stylish. Posh has been seen wearing this black embellished Dolce and Gabbana headband (€405) in Dubai and Milan.  You can reach for a bejewelled head band that won’t break the bank from Johnny Loves Rosie for €45.  This label does the most imaginative headbands, hairclips and hair accessories  – they cost a bit more than high street shops but it’s worth having a look and paying a bit more for that wedding or races you have coming up – just to get the extra compliment.

Double-strapped elastic band

On other occasions Victoria has worn a simple, black, double-strapped elastic band shown here on the far right (it’s barely visible against her dark hair). H&M sell these bands in a selection of colours. How do I know this? I’ve bought them over the years in lots of colours, green and grey being my favourite.

Accessorize also sell sparkly and metallic (silver and gold) versions and sometimes triple strapped headbands which, personally, I found too tight on my head. The double-strapped elastic band is a great way to funk up your overall look if you can’t be bothered with wearing other accessories.

House of Harlow 1960 Headpiece

For a more boho or Grecian look, Nicole Richie wears a headband from her House of Harlow 1960 collection.  Nicole claims that the head pieces are her favourites from the jewellery collection she designs herself (her daughter is also called Harlow).  The collection is inspired by the ’60s and ’70s and seems to suit those girls with long, flowly, unkempt hair.

The collection we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived.  Kate Moss continues her partnership with Topshop, this week launching her Spring Summer 2009 collection, the ninth in a row for Topshop. The highlight of this years collection was the grand opening of  the Topshop New York shop.

Pictured above, Kate paints the town red wearing three glamourous party outfits  which she wore around the event.

Pictured middle  Kate wears a jumpsuit and neat belt around the waist and dinky leopard print, peep toe heels.  She continues the trend from Summer 2008, wearing  Rayban Wayfarer sunglasses .

On the left she wears a white tuxedo jacket and gold dress theme. Kate Moss had a busy day in the city promoting Topshop with owner and friend Sir Philip Green. For the shop opening, ironically Kate Moss wore a biker jacket over an amazing emerald green dress. She must’ve read the March tips on whatshewears.ie on how to wear a biker jacket.

The NYC celebs joined in on the fun with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony and Blake Lively (of Gossip Girl fame) amongst others, partying at Topshop all week.

Launches and after partys aside, Kate’s collection was influenced by vintage wear inlcluding lots of prints and

With the clocks changing next weekend, it is nearly time to dump your winter coat for another year and turn to a lighter option of wearing a jacket instead. Here is a quick guide to this wardrobe staple. Read on to find out if your style is biker, blazer or bomber. The whatshewears.ie team urge you to choose your jacket with your figure in mind, not a specific trend.

Biker Jacket

Once the style associated with burly Hells Angel’s types, the black leather motorcycle jacket, with its sharp collar and industrial-looking zipper is now showing its feminine side. This look is a bit rock-and-roll, yet still a classic and a wardrobe staple  that is always in fashion.  The biker jacket is such a versatile piece to own – it can be mixed in so many ways to achieve different looks.

For evening wear, biker jackets don’t have to be worn with denim – it can give a sexy edge to your going out dress without covering it up.

For day time, wear your biker jacket with jeans or a day dress, black opaque tights and bright pumps.  Biker jackets are great for festivals too – start planning your Electric Picnic outfit now!

WSW tip #1: Make sure to find one that is fitted and the length should be right at the waist or just slightly below.

WSW tip #2: Choose classic black and let the jacket be the focus point of your outfit, no need to accessorize with bangles or necklace.

Blazer

A blazer can upgrade day wear or office wear, can be added to a flirty dress and looks smart with a sharp pair of trousers.  If your style is more jet set, choose a blazer.  You can achieve a grown up, European look by wearing slim jeans, flat pumps and a smart blazer.

In general, blazers make a great cover-up solution for spring or summer.  If you’re unsure about skinny tailoring a la Kate Moss, a neck scarf can soften this style for you. So if you want to look effortlessly polished; look no further than a blazer. Luckily, the shops are full of blazers at the moment so you’ll have no trouble finding one you like.

WSW tip # 3: Choose a blazer that is cut shorter and narrower than a suit jacket. If you’re feeling even more confident, roll up the sleeves.

Bomber Jacket

You may have seen plenty of bomber jackets last autumn and winter . This laid back style is another key piece that pretty much stays in fashion year in year out.

There are a lot of shades of brown bomber jackers out there, tan being the most popular. A tan coloured bomber jacket can be worn with high waisted flairs to get, a cool, retro look but note that  this colour doesn’t always suit Irish girls. Luckily there are bomber jackets in black, navies and even grey. Oasis, River Island and Urban Outfitters are great shops for bomber jackets. Orlando Boom, pictured here, is wearing a bomber jacket under his leather jacket; I guess it must’ve been cold that day?

WSW tip # 4:  Bomber jackets are usually cropped, showing off a higher waist and giving full visibility to long legs (if you have them!). Not so good on shorter gals who, if they wear high platform heels, can pull this off.
