We recently discovered hot new Irish label Kate and Ava when looking for some glamorous occasion wear. The design duo consists of Kate Reilly and Ava Cassidy who design with a feminine, elegant touch using rich, luxuriant fabrics including wools, silks and jerseys.

Pictured here are our favourite pieces from Kate and Ava’s Autumn Winter 09 collection; a bow collar top and gold paisley skirt,  a nude coloured layered skirt,  and a purple paper bag waistband dress. The a/w collection is built around cocktail dresses in a rich palette of colours – purples, blacks and a touch of gold.

Other pieces include a cream cashmere knee length coat, smart belted wool jacket and tailored pencil skirts.

Underwear is the new outerwear. At Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring Summer 2010 shows at London & Milan Fashion Weeks earlier this month, the design duo showed their sexy signature corset dresses showing bra tops matched with 50s-style full knickers.

Taking inspiration from the boudoir, the Italian pair turned up the heat with crochet designs that exposed traditional bodices and corsets beneath. Bra straps peeked out from the top of dresses and lace crept from hemlines of super short minis.

D&G’s celebrity fans include Madonna, Frieda Pinto, Beyonce, Victoria Beckham and Scarlett Johansson, who is the face of their cosmetics campaign.

Underwear as outerwear as a trend is set to emerge next summer and was also indicated by Gucci and Versace.
