Poppy Delevigne and younger sister Cara are in the midst of a fashion moment; if they’re not strutting their stuff on the catwalk they’re parked in the front row. But who exactly are this pair of fair-haired beauties?

As the daughters of Selfridges’ personal shopper, Pandora, and property developer, Charles, Poppy and Cara grew up sharing a classroom with the likes of Lily Allen, Alice Dellal and the Jagger brood at their Hampshire boarding school.

Also blessed with Condé Nast’s managing director, Nicholas Coleridge as a godfather and Joan Collins as a godmother, the pair were destined for big things since birth. Coupled with their blue-blooded birthright is the fact that both girls are absolutely stunning and radiate with sun-kissed tresses, big blue peepers and glowing pale skin perfection.

Poppy Delevigne

Signed to Storm Models in London, 24 year old Poppy was the first of the Delevigne dynasty to step in front of the camera lens. The long-legged beauty has since racked up campaigns for Anya Hindmarch, Mango and Burberry, as well as being a brand ambassador for Chanel and Versace. Even though she models for high end designers, Poppy doesn’t take herself too seriously: once, she didn’t realise she had worn her Alberta Ferretti dress backward to a New York charity function and chuckled when her fashion faux pas was pointed out (see pic below).

City chic with a punky edge, Poppy says she dresses to suit her mood and her favourite high street shops are Mango and Topshop. She’s now taken her English Rose look stateside— where she once shared a flat with fellow London beauty Sienna Miller—and has signed with Elite models New York.

Cara Delevigne

An inch and a half shorter and six years younger, little sister Cara has been modelling since the age of eight, when she appeared in Italian Vogue (not a bad start!). Hot on Poppy’s modelling heels, she too recently signed with Storm models.

Cara is a regular on the Asos.com catwalk and has been welcomed into the Burberry modelling family as the face of their spring/summer 2011 campaign. She’s also a big fan of our very own highstreet emporium, A|Wear, and was the stunning face of their sixties-inspired ‘Factory Girl’ collection.

Cara loves leather and is rarely seen without her perfecto style biker jacket or leather skinnies. Unlike her big sis, Cara has fixed herself firmly in London, and is the most sought after face by Ireland and the UK’s top photographers. She hopes one day to move from photos to film however as she recently told the Daily Mail: “I enjoy modelling, but my passion is acting, that’s what I want to do.”

Poppy and Cara Delevigne at Glastonbury

Here’s what the stylish siblings wore to Glastonbury and to follow a style file of the fashionable duo:

Poppy wore a Mulberry Carter Camera bag with a Belstaff leather jacket, Wrangler denim shirt, red Paige jeans and Hunter wellies.

Cara wore River Island dungarees over a bikini top, with trainers and a Mulberry bag. Her sunglasses were by Burberry Brights.

By Jennifer Ennis

“Influenced By” shows you how to pull off a catwalk collection. Today it’s the turn of Burberry spring summer 2010.

Summer may be in full swing but fashion is always thinking ahead, so before the high street makes the transition to Autumn/Winter 2010, there is still time to grab yourself some beautiful summer looks – now at bargain prices.

Burberry Prorsum returned to London for the 25th anniversary of Fashion Week and showcased one of Christopher Bailey’s strongest collections yet.

The iconic trench was given a fresh updated look across a colour palette of mint, lilac, stone and baby pink. A youthful feel was presented with hemlines slashed to above the knee, belts worn over trench coats and dresses, and even the taboo of socks and sandals was successfully broken.

Naturally, the looks transcended onto the high street and in particular at A-Wear and Topshop.

Here are some of the key pieces inspired by Burberry Prorsum that will last long after summer 2010 is gone.

Ruffled party dress

Topshop have created their own versions of Bailey’s ruffled party dresses in colours such as white and pink. Our favourite is a mint one shoulder dress, a steal at £45/€53. The colour is perfect for summer evenings and flattering to every skin tone, while the one shoulder detail gives a fresh look for any party.

The sophisticated summer dress

The colour lilac was a welcome addition to Bailey’s Spring/Summer collection and bargain of the week is most definitely A-Wear’s carbon copy, the cotton Knot Sleeveless Dress. This dress was €45 and is now reduced to an astonishing €10 in their summer sale.

Trench Coat

Of course the trench coat needs no introduction. AllSaints have an exquisite stone colour one called the Dido Mac which is priced £195/€230. This may seem pricey but the trench is an investment piece that never goes out of fashion.

Burberry Accessories

Bailey kept his accessories simple with the addition of the odd pair of sunglasses or checked bag. However, he did add a belt to every single model on the catwalk. Update your trench this season by wearing a belt over it. This also accentuates your waist and breaks up the block colour.

To replicate this look, head to Reiss – their Arlo Black waist belt is on sale for £30/€35 reduced from £59/€70.

Burberry Shoes

Bailey’s girls wore nude and grey platform sandals on the runway to complete the look. ASOS have a striking nude Hank Stud and Buckle Platform shoe for €53. It is up to you if you want to add the socks or not! If you do, make sure they are same colour as the shoe.

Burberry Beauty

As with many designers this season, the ‘no make up’ make up look was used at Burberry Prorsum. The key to this look is flawless skin (or the illusion of flawless skin). Use a foundation that is good for your skin like Bourjois Healthy Fix Foundation, €15.99 or BareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation, €25.

Keep eye make up simple with just subtle mascara. Let your skin do the talking! Bailey’s girls wore nude lipstick. MAC has a great shade of nude lippie called Myth, (€17), available at MAC counters.

So for the rest of summer, take a leaf out of Burberry Prorsum’s book and enjoy the vibrant colours on show… but hurry as all these must haves are selling fast!

In order to dress appropriately for this time of year we can combine winter’s warm wardrobe with a few key new pieces from the new Spring trends.

By Siobhan Lam

This is always a tricky time of year for fashion. After a month of spending on others we’re more than eager to spend on ourselves but most shops are in sale mode. Do we really want to buy last season’s styles which may only be relevant for a couple more weeks? Having said that, most shops don’t even have their Spring Collection in yet and even then – is this really the weather to be frolicking the streets in flimsy spring wear?

After many caffeine-fuelled scouting trips and sleepless nights aplenty, the solution made itself clear. In order to dress appropriately for this time of year we can combine winter’s warm wardrobe with a few key new pieces from the new Spring trends, I’ve picked two of the strongest trends to get us started. The chosen catwalk trends are not unfamiliar – lace and trench coats.

Trench Coat

Granted Mr. Bailey always includes ‘the trench’ in his Burberry Prosum Collection – it would be almost blasphemous not to – but other designers included it in their designs too, making it a key piece for any self -respecting fashionista this season.

Dior kept its trench short and sexy as did upcoming designer Erin Fetherston, whereas Burberry infused the classic coat with gathered shoulders and cool pastel shades.

If Bailey’s amalgamation has your heart all a flutter, Awear has a sweet parka alternative in store now. The sugary pink of the frill funnel parka (€60) is completely on trend and the frills add a gorgeous element of femininity to a coat usually associated with men.

For a more ironic nod to this look, check out the Oasis Trench Coat Trompe L’Oeil Print Tee (see above centre). This fun oversized t-shirt (€46) works fantastically with skinny jeans, ankle boots and a heavy boyfriend cardigan or long waistcoat – and voila! you have an outrageously up-to-date uniform for any discerning style queen.

Lace

Lace is another trend that does not want to go away. Of course this is not necessarily a negative thing. When a trend creeps from one season to the next, it means that we continue to wear clothes that we bought the previous season. At this time of the year we can take advantage of the sales and buy the lace leftovers and wear them well into next winter.

Not one to deviate from its classic Parisian look, Chanel featured lace heavily in its S/S 2010 collection. As did British designer Christopher Kane who mixed lace effectively with gingham dresses while vegan extraordinaire Stella McCartney introduced the fabric with her lace bodysuits – expertly demonstrated by the ever chic Alexa Chung in V Magazine (above).

One of my favourites, Modcloth.com, has some stunning lace pieces in stock and with the dollar’s lacklustre performance at the moment means that it’s a good time to buy from America. The Strangers on a Train Dress with its floral lace overlay is just as adorable as its whimsical name suggests and works out at a very reasonable €47.15.

For those of you who prefer to keep your purchases closer to home, Urban Outfitters have a stunning lace tier skirt by Kimchi & Blue (€59) in store. The skirt is the perfect tone of cream, ticking another trend for this season – neutral shades.

It may be slightly more wearable than the dress – wear it with your favourite band tee and biker boots or embrace the romantic trend totally and wear with classic mary-janes and a Yumi knitted cardigan from Topshop.
Or better still; wear your lace peeping out from the bottom of your new trench – the perfect outfit for a very fashionable new year!

Here are my favourites from London Fashion Week:

PPQ

PPQ’s Nubian inspired theme (meaning Sudanese) for spring 2010 was typical of this label where cheeky swimwear, funky sun dresses, and playsuits featured.

PPQ has a huge pop brat following and true to form, a horde of paparazzi-fodder- under-25’s packed the venue to see this show – including Alexa Chung, Peaches Geldof and her new best friend Roseanna Davison.

I loved the high beehive hairstyles on the models, their new collaboration with Adidas and the fact that they used black models only for this show.

Following the criticism of ethnic diversity that’s been going on in the fashion world, this is a good thing. However, the collection has a way to go yet to be classified alongside contemporaries such as March Jacobs and 3.1 Philip Lim.

Burberry Prorsum

What can I say? Loved, loved, loved this transformation of a fuddy duddy “olde” English label into an uber glamorous must-have for every fashionista. Read more here.

William Tempest

I think this young British designer is about to make it big. It was a hair trend that I especially loved from Tempest’s catwalk; to-the-side, high glam hair, inspired by high fashion Paris couture (pictured).

Christopher Kane

Besides his new collaboration with Topshop which hit the shops last week, Christopher Kane’s own spring 2010 collection points to gingham as a key pattern for next year.

So ladies, you’ll have to root out that old gingham shirt or summer dress next year, it’s on its way back.

I also enjoyed the music they played at London Fashion Week:

Libertango’, by Johnwaynes
(At Vivienne Westwood Red.)

(Lots of them in the front row at PPQ! See above.)

‘Scenic World’, by Beirut
(At Dublin-based John Rocha show.)

‘Pearl’s Dream’, by Bat for Lashes
(Pearly metallics at Matthew Williamson.)

‘The Passenger’, by Iggy Pop
(Sienna Miller and sister Savannah present Twenty8Twelve)

‘Left My Heart in Tokyo’, by Mini Viva
(A warm fuzzy song which accompanied the Issa dresses – Kate Middleton is a big fan.)

And so it’s back to normality after London Fashion Week, until it cranks up again next February!

Emma Watson has really caught our attention and indeed that of the fashion world with her pretty English rose looks.

So much so, that Christopher Bailey, Burberry‘s creative director, has chosen the actress to front their ad campaign next season. “I wanted the images to represent both the rich history and the modernity of the Burberry brand, while at the same time reflecting a quiet beauty, timelessness and strength that is particularly significant today.”

Seen here wearing a signature Burberry mac in one of the campaign photos on the right, which was shot in Westminster (how English can you get?) by famous fashion photographer Mario Testino.

Watson then went on to be pictured on the front of Teen Vogue, announcing shortly afterwards that she is going to launch her own clothes collection.

Despite the shock when we read her date of birth (she was born in 1990!), we’ve seen the Hermione character grow up on screen and it’s suffice to say that Emma has transformed from school girl innocence to stylish fashionista with designers constantly vying for her to wear their creations.

Watson decided to ignore them on this occasion, when all eyes looked to her at this week’s Harry Potter premiere in London. Pictured here left, she wore an Ossie Clark chic vintage dress.

Ossie Clark was an English fashion designer who was a major figure in the Swinging Sixties scene in London and the fashion industry in that era.

Emma Watson has really made her mark on the fashion industry in 2009, and we can’t wait to see how our July Muse of the Month progresses through her twenties.

With the transition from winter to summer wardrobes, its difficult to know what type of coat to wear. As April showers are sure to hit, one can always wear a jacket for more casual days, but the smart choice is to invest in a trench coat.

The trench coat has become a wardrobe staple for Irish women (yes it tends to be our substitute for a rain coat). Historically it was first introduced for the military by Thomas Burberry back at the turn of the 20th century.

Also known as a Mac, the trench coat became a fashion item in the 1960s and was made popular by fictional characters such as Dick Tracy and Rick Blaine from Casablanca.

So history and weather patterns aside, here are the whatshewears.ie top 5 picks of trench coats around:

1. Blake Lively, wears a fashion forward Burberry trench coat with ruched sleeves (€823). Underneath, she wore a plaid, Kettle Black dress (€110), opaque tights and a Bubble Quilt Chanel handbag in burgandy. Blake’s funky footwear add the finishing touch in the form of Orniron Christian Louboutin ankle boots (€653).

2. Pop colours are all the rage this season, so brighten up the rainy Irish days with trench coats in lively colours.
Take for instance, this classic red trench with full skirt (€72) from Miss Selfridge.

3. Your friends will be green with envy with our third choice of trenchcoat – Star by Julian Macdonald at Debenhams (€77).

4. Try this voluminous, turquoise blue trench coat from Red Herring at Debenhams. Was €44 reduced to €13 online.

5. You can always count on Next for a classic trench coat in beige colour. Not a colour that suits us Irish girls, this longer version of the classic trench is still a best seller (€72).

So ladies, even if it rains, you’ll still look absolutely faboulous in your chic trench coat.

Contrary to the cobolt blue hue which still continues to be a big hit sine Summer 2008, the new blue hue for Spring is dusty blue.

Jennifer Aniston matched her Burberry dress to her stunning blue eyes for the London premiere of Marley and Me in early February 2009. Rumour has it that she had Burberry dye the dress the exact colour of Jennifer’s eyes.

A dusty blue coloured dress would look stunning on you if you have Jennifer Aniston coloured eyes. If you are looking to wear dusty blue to your next black tie event, we found a similar dress to Jennifer Aniston’s one in Coast. You will be glad to know that Coast now offer an online shop with Euro prices for Irish shoppers (previously one had to order from their UK online shop if their stuff was sold out in Irish shops).

At the Golden Globe Awards 2009, Drew Barrymore swapped her normal rock chick look for a
Hollywood starlet look in a dusty blue, John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture dress. Her shoes, though not visible here, were Roger Vivier. The sheer overlay on her gown provides some bounce as Drew dazzled in a diamond bracelet and jewelled earrings.

Blue Makeup

Blue makeup has had a bad reputation of late, probably because it conjures up images of eighties gone wrong aerobics. So,we were delighted to see a blue revival on the Spring Summer runways, namely in the form of Temperley London.

Add to your smokey eye makeup pallete with this navy blue look. Instead of using charcoals or greys, copy the Temperley eye makeup shown here with the following Mac products: Fluidline in Waveline (€12) and Eye Kohl in Smoulder, again (€12) .

Alternative and similar products to create a stormy eye effect can be achieved with Make Up For Ever’s Eyeshadow in True Blue 8 (€14) or Matte Eye Shadow in Riviera Blue by Revlon (€4) .

While the Temperley runway version demands a lot of eye shadow applying, you can easily do a more wearable version. Check out Kate Hudson pictured here at the Bride Wars film premiere. Instead of blending the shadow to the far edges of her eyes like the Temperley model does, she confines the colour to the eyelids only.

If this style is still too OTT for you, change the midnight blue eyeshadow for one that’s lighter and more grey.

What are bib necklaces you may ask? Shaped like a babies bib, this supersized accessory stood out on the catwalks recently.

Despite the “infant” connotations, celebrities and fashionistas alike have adopted the catwalk look and are wearing bib necklaces to every event they can think of. So even if you can’t afford to splurge on a new outfit this season, accessorizing with an eye-catching necklace could give your outfit the refreshing look that is needed.

Pictured left to right

Amy Adams, seen here at The Oscars 2009 wore a strapless red Carolina Herrera dress and a turquoise coloured jewelled bib necklace by Fred Leighton.

Pictured above is actress Kristin Kreuk at the Japanese premiere of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Her glamorous bib necklace goes to show that this accessory doesn’t have to be as bold as the catwalk versions; there are subtle ones out there too.

Featured at Burberry, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chanel, a bib necklace is indeed, quite a statement. In fact, at New York fashion week in February, it looked like all the guests were wearing one!

Where can we buy bib necklaces?

So we’ve seen them on the catwalk and the red carpet but where can we buy them? Of course, not everyone wants to wear such a theatrical statement. So, if you prefer your jewellery to be a little less dramatic, check out the metallic version from ASOS.

Accessorize , Nefertiti style bib necklace, (€25)
