While London Fashion Week was getting into the groove across the pond, Dublin´s fash pack made their way to Harvey Nichols car park (yes you betcha – the place was transformed into a cool, chic venue with minimalist décor and a gloss white ‘L’ shaped runway) where over 400 of Dublin’s VIPs and fashionistas alongside media and celebrities descended to catch a glimpse of this seasons key looks.

Guests included Amy Huberman, Caroline Harrington, Emily O’ Donnell, Kate Goodison, Phillipa Buckely and Melina Skvortsova.

The show focused on Stella McCartney, Roksanda Ilincic, Preen, Amanda Wakeley and Katie Holmes new label – Holmes & Yang.

Models were sent down the catwalk with hair styled by Michael Leong, inspired by the Alexander McQueen Autumn Winter 2011 show with lots of glossy hair grips complimented by fresh rose and gold coloured make-up.

Nicole Richie’s impeccable style grabs our attention every time. In Beverly Hills (pictured above) she accessorised with a vintage, snakeskin clutch. Find your python perfection with this Botkier purse from ASOS.

Mary Kate Olsen

Mary Kate Olsen was one of the first to rock the over-sized clutch trend a few season’s back, wearing this Prada purse  (pictured above). Luckily large clutches are back in so if you like Mary Kate’s style, consider this natural-look, faux snakeskin clutch (£8) from Boohoo as a thrifty alternative.

For those of you who love shoes (who doesn’t?), Terry de Havilland’s towering (5 inch) wedges are hugely popular with the Brit “It” pack . Sienna Miller and Kate Moss have been wearing them religiously since 2007 whereas Mischa Barton wore the metallic snakeskin wedges to Australian fashion week in 2008.

The Margaux Pewter wedges (€525) pictured above are from Lara (1 Dame Lane, Dublin 2, 01 670 79 51), direct from Terry DeHavilland himself and in other boutiques around Ireland. Dehavilland footwear doesn’t come cheap, so you may want to wait for the summer sales.

Kate Moss at Glastonbury 2011

Fashion Icon Kate Moss embraced the mud at the weekend and worked festival chic in her usual stylish way, teaming her signature leather jacket and wellies with a pair of chic, snake print skinny jeans.

Dressed head to toe in Balmain (apart from her Hunter wellies) her outfit may be out of our price-range but we did squeal with delight when we found these Limited Collection snake print jeans for only €54 at M&S !

Roz Purcell

Meanwhile while the rest of the UK was waking up to muddier Glasto fields last Sunday, Ireland’s top model was getting ready for a day at the races at The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

We love her take on race day dressing – no matchy matchy-ness or hats in sight.  Just sky high gold wedges, a dusty pink coloured maxi and a snakeskin kimono jacket from Topshop (sadly for those of us lookin to steal her style,  it’s no longer available).

Purcell transformed her simple maxi with a kimono jacket which also nods to this season’s boudoir trend. Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate collection has many kimono options (which we recommend as an alternative to a dress, to wear to a ladies charity lunch) but you’ll also find purse friendly alternatives chez ASOS.

My weeks are never the same. The great part about my job is the diversity of not knowing what each week has in store for you, although sometimes that can be the hardest part! This week, was one of those weeks, which also made it very exciting.

On Styling Amy Huberman

On Monday I had a meeting-come-fitting with the fab Amy Huberman. Amy’s premiere for her film Rewind is next week so I had to find some great pieces for her to wear.

We found the outfits and needless to say, we got very excited in the process. Keep your eyes peeled for the pictures of the premiere next week and I can give you all the details then!

Amy also needed another outfit for promotional TV appearance, so we got both done in the same fitting. Perfect! The clothes all came over from London and some are from next season’s AW11 collections.

On Styling Anna Daly

On Tuesday, I was filming a style piece for TV3 Xpose with the gorgeous Anna Daly from Ireland AM.  It’s all great fun doing it – the lovely Aisling O’Loughlin was presenting the piece and she makes you feel so much at ease, which helps.

The next day, I popped out to have a look at some new designs by the very talented Deborah Veale . It’s always great to meet with the designer in person and see and hear about their collections,  ”from the horse’s mouth” as it were.

Today I gave myself the day off – well it is Paddys day after all!

On Styling Grainne Seoige

Tomorrow, I have a fitting with Grainne Seoige for the VIP Style Awards next week. I have found some really special dresses lined up, so I can’t wait to see them on Grainne and then decide on THE ONE.

Then, I am collecting our new puppy, it’s a Bischon Frise. Note to self to keep all the precious dresses on lockdown!

Every day, we at WhatSheWears.ie choose lots of the world’s most fashionable ladies for our daily digest.  Now that we’ve had a chance to look back at 2010, only a few are awarded our Best Dressed 2010 title.  And so, it is with great pleasure that I present the select few who really inspired me in 2010.

1. Olivia Palermo

The Most Stylish Across the Pond award goes to Olivia Palermo.  She stands out from the crowd in NYC as she gets most of her clothes when travelling in Europe (cue Topshop, Zara and Twenty8Twelve, amongst others) and has a knack of mixing high street with designer.

In 2009, Palermo was one of the first people I saw wearing a coatigan (a coat/cardigan) and she took the bib necklace slash collar necklace slash statement necklace to the next level wearing uber large versions -  If you fancy stealing her style, there are plenty at Tallulah Tu and Asos.

For fans of skinny jeans (who isn’t?) Olivia swears by AG’s “Stilt” jeans (£92), but to copy her accessories style from this particular pic, you’ll find her belt currently stocked at Penneys and the leopard print Mulberry Alexa handbag at Brown Thomas.

2. Amy Huberman

A former WhatSheWears Muse of the Month Amy Huberman has continued her stylish crusade all through 2010.

From the beautiful Beuys and Beuys dress Amy wore to the IFTAs,  to her wedding dress– Huberman wins our most stylish Irish woman award.

3. Dannii Minogue

Being a huge fan of elegant, structured dressing, my overall award goes to to Dannii Minogue, especially for her dress choices, reinventing her bob and accessories on The X Factor.

The fact that her hair was different on every single appearance was also a must watch factor, while she rocked dresses by home-grown Aussie talents such as J’Aton couture and Kiwi Designer Emilia Wickstead.

Queen of the asymmetric (one shouldered) dress, this white Grecian gown from X Factor Week 6 was my favourite. While this Australian Carla Zampatti design is off limits for most of us, Coast have created a similar version with their Trudy pleat maxi dress (£160), all be it a bandeau style.

Ladies day Dublin Horse Show 2010

The queue went on and on, winding around the grass pavilion of the Band Lawn at the RDS. Ladies sipped white wines by the bucket load (after all Blossom Hill is the sponsor of this event) in the sunshine as they waited their turn to go on stage in this year’s Blossom Hill Ladies Day at the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show.

Unlike The Galway Races where the judges work the crowd and pick the entrants for best dressed lady, at The Dublin Horse Show one can enter oneself, and so you can imagine that the entries were plentiful.

What awaited the entrants was a chance to go on stage and speak to MC Aisling O ‘Loughlin (TV3 Xposé presenter), who quizzed the lovely ladies about their outfit; while the judges – couturier Synan O’Mahony and actress Amy Huberman – took in all the details.

The stories were entertaining – everyone had the chance to talk through their outfits which ranged from high street, to designer and vintage, while the big trend at the 2010 Horse Show was that a lot of women made their own hats and borrowed or repurposed dresses they had bought for another occasion.

The lovely ladies, for the most part, combined great dress sense with a touch of individuality.

Best Dressed Lady Dublin Horse Show 2010

Best dressed lady was Yvonne Ellard, a former Miss Ireland. She wore a borrowed- from-her-mother silver coat with a black belt and oriental print detail, with grey Penneys shoes and a black hat fitted with a grey corsage, also from Penneys.

Most Creative Hat

This lady donned a homemade hat of peacock feathers (see picture in the gallery of the winner on stage) teamed with a cobalt blue dress. She flew over from Nottingham this morning with Ryanair, who would only allow once piece of hand luggage, so ended up wearing her hat on her head on the plane!

The Judges Amy Huberman and Synan O’Mahony had their work cut out for them with three hours of speaking to entrants on stage.

Amy herself wore a cream sleeveless dress with black bib detail, a black corsaged hair band and oversized sunglasses while Synan looked smart in a tie and Huge Boss suit.

Amy’s dress at the Dublin Horse Show was Ted Baker (€175) and the hat piece is from an Irish designer called Matt Doody who sells in Bow in Powerscourt Townhouse centre.

Amy Huberman’s wedding dress was by couture designer Stephanie Allin which she bought from bridal shop Myrtle Ivory (3 Anne’s Lane, Dublin 2, and Telephone 01 675 3519, Email: INFO@MYRTLEIVORY.COM )

At WhatSheWears.ie, we’ve followed Amy’s style with great interest (as we love it so) and, yet again, she has proved herself in the style stakes with her choice of a simply cut 50′s style dress with sweet heart shaped neckline, a full skirt, and a subtle bow around her waist.

Amy Hubermans Wedding Shoes

Amy’s wedding shoes are by the designer Nando Muzi from our favourite designer shoe shop, Cocobelle (Royal Hibernian Way, Dublin 2. Telephone 01 707 1818).

The wedding ceremony took place at St Joseph’s Church in Aughavas and their 250 guests went on to enjoy a champagne reception on the lawn of Lough Rynn Castle near Mohill, Co. Leitrim.

Tonight they’ll dance to the Camembert Quartet (Ryan Tubridy’s Late Late Show band) and tomorrow, “Bramy” as they are sometimes affectionately dubbed, will host a BBQ, where The Coronas will play.

Huberman’s bridesmaid dresses were dusty pink coloured dresses, each in a different cut (there were V-neck, one shoulder and halterneck) while Brian O’Driscoll, his best men (he had two) and groomsman wore black morning suits with true grey coloured waistcoats.

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) welcomed the cream of Ireland’s creative talent from the world of film and television as they gathered in Dublin at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel on Saturday night (February 20) to acknowledge and celebrate the Irish industry’s achievements both at home and abroad.

As you may know, we are BIG fans of Amy Huberman here at WhatSheWears.ie and so it’s only natural that we got the inside scoop on her outfit, thanks to her stylist Ingrid Hoey.

The emerald green silk dress is by London based designer Belle & Bunty which is for sale in Ireland exclusively at Beuys and Beuys 99B Rathgar. Her shoes, though not visible here, are from the fabulous Nando Muzzi at Cocobelle (Unit 25 Royal Hibernian Way, Dawson St, Dublin 2).

Amy’s crystal embellished clutch is by Irish designer Joanne Hynes (Brown Thomas, Grafton Street Dublin 2) and her Jewellery is by Rebecca Davis (Westbury Mall, Dublin 2).

Finding the perfect piece of outerwear for spring days often frustrates me (in Ireland, anyway as the weather is so unpredictable). While the trench comes in handy on rainy days, my favourite option for milder days is the blazer.  It’s a classic wardrobe staple up there with the denim jacket, little leather jacket and trench coat, that’s been worn for the past few years by us normal folk and trendsetters alike.

Indeed, a more dressed up version of the blazer is the Tuxedo jacket (seen here on Sienna in her own cropped Twenty8Twelve design from 2008).

The tuxedo jacket can be dressed up or down and gives any outfit a touch of Yves Saint Laurent. It looks smart with a T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans, like Amy Huberman, pictured here at the IFTA’s launch when she wore her black Zara blazer with tuxedo detail with a Breton top from Urban Outfitters.

Kristen Steward wore hers over a LBD to last year’s premiere of Twilight, which proves that it also looks fabulous over short evening dresses.

As well as cropped versions, the tuxedo jacket is cut slightly longer in the sleeves and body and usually has a satin trim. The single breasted style is more flattering on girls; I think the double breasted versions are best left to rotund older men!

Tuxedo jackets and blazers are not just a big spring trend (currently at  Burberry and Diane von Furstenberg), but are ideal for autumn as well.

My pick from the designer collections is this one by the late Alexander McQueen (£395, €450.30 at Matches Fashion) – buy it now  as all McQueen’s designs are selling out fast if they haven’t done so already.

On the High Street, my favourites include Karen Millen (€175), and a borrowed from your boyfriend style from GAP (£49.50).

My final piece of advice is to always hold on to a well tailored black tuxedo jacket or blazer as it’s a piece of outerwear that will never go out of fashion.

Every day, we at WhatSheWears.ie choose lots of the world’s most fashionable ladies for our daily digest.  Now that we’ve had a chance to look back at 2009, only a few are awarded our Best Dressed 2009 title.  And so, it is with great pleasure that I present the select few who really inspired me in 2009.

1. Olivia Palermo

The Most Stylish Across the Pond (i.e. across the Atlantic) award goes to Olivia Palermo. She stands out from the crowd in NYC as she gets most of her clothes when travelling in Europe (cue Topshop, Christopher Kane and Twenty8Twelve, amongst others).

In 2009, Palermo was one of the first people I saw wearing a coatigan (a coat/cardigan) and she took the bib necklace, collar necklace and statement necklace to the next level wearing uber large versions such as this Roberta Freymann one pictured. If you fancy stealing her style, pick up a crystal necklace at Asos (£12 in their sale).

For fans of skinny jeans (who isn’t?) Olivia swears by AG’s “Stilt” jeans (£92), but to copy her style from this particular pic, she wears Zara shoes, an Anya Hindmarch bag, Ray Ban sunglasses, a nautical or striped T-shirt from Club Monaco and a Twenty8Twelve skirt.

2. Amy Huberman

Our February 2009 Muse of the Month Amy Huberman had a successfully stylish last year of the decade.

From the beautiful Joanne Hynes dress she wore to the IFTA’s, to the Topshop tea dress she wore judging Ladies Day at the Dublin Horse show, to her 2009 addition of a vintage inspired engagement ring– Huberman wins our most stylish Irish woman award. Can’t wait to see her style in 2010 when she ties the knot (no pressure Amy!).

3. Dannii Minogue

Being a huge fan of elegant dressing, my top award in this category went to Dannii Minogue, especially for her elegant dresses, reinventive hairstyles and accessories on The X Factor.

It’s ironic that I originally tuned in to catch Cheryl Cole’s outfits, but ended up getting hooked on Minogue’s instead! It’s even more impressive therefore, when I found out that Dannii did all her own styling for the show – pulling off a sophisticated 30- something style, leaving the 20-something short dress styles to Cheryl.

The fact that her hair was different on every single appearance was also a must watch factor, while she rocked dresses by Donna Karen and home-grown Aussie talents such as J’Aton couture (pictured) and Lisa Ho.

Queen of the asymmetric (one shouldered) dress, this bubble pink J’aton couture dress from X Factor week 8, was my favourite. While this Australian design is off limits for most of us, French Connection have created a cool lookalike, as have Coast (€110) and Diane von Furstenberg (€655.50).

4. Alexa Chung

Looking at a totally different style from our other best dressed 09-er’s, I simply had to mention Alexa Chung who I’ve followed from wearing Breton tops at Glastonbury to the front row at London Fashion Week, to wearing Louis Vuitton platform sandals at Paris Fashion Week.

Her daytime and red carpet style is certainly different from the other fashion packers– we highlighted her Katy Rodriguez dress a while ago – in fact the entire outfit she wore to the New Moon premiere was. what I thought to be, her best look this year.

Alexa’s designer dress came in at £507… Add on the £165 for the Russell& Bromley bag and an extra £325 for the gorgeous Marni shoes and you have an outfit to die for. You can steal her style to recreate this exact outfit with a Beau Sequin Bodice and Ruffle skirt (£25), a Mollie Animal Print Clutch Bag (£18) and a pair of Luca Patent Platforms (£30), all from Boohoo.com.

Chung’s cold weather gear is also to yearn for – I loved the long leopard print coat she wore bare legged to an Emmy gala this November (although it’s probably best worn with tights this side of the Atlantic!).

Alexa Chung is such a fan of Mulberry that they’ve named a bag after her - The Alexa will launch in the second week of January and will retail for £795.

5. Lily Allen

Also worth a mention is Lily Allen, who featured as our June 2009 Muse of the Month. Her transformation into a bonafide fashionista was complete in 2009 when Karl Lagerfeld chose her as the face of his Coco Cocoon range.

Shunning Twitter, blogging and music for 2010, Lily wants to focus on fashion for a while and plans to open her own boutique in 2010 where she’ll lend out her designer wear. Oooh to live in London so that I could avail of this!

Who was your best dressed lady in 2009?

While the rest of you were off toasting Arthur’s Day on Thursday 24 September, I attended the Joanne Hynes Trunk Show in Brown Thomas.

One of my favourite Irish fashion designers, Joanne Hynes was showcasing her latest Autumn Winter collection in a personal way. She walked us through her key pieces in her Autumn Winter collection and gave some tips on how to style them.

This was Joanne’s first year using leather in her collection and it was worth the wait. Joanne’s leather pieces included a chocolate brown capped sleeve dress (€480) with a large brown belt (in the softest of leather) and an armour leather jacket with strong shoulders and elbow pads (€630, pictured right), which is on my wish list for this season.

Hynes also has an amazing hand beaded dress (pictured here top left) which she calls the Guardian Angel Dress because of how powerful this dress is. She aptly named it as, when the dress appeared, the whole room gasped at its pure beauty.

Joanne’s statement bib necklaces include touches of velvet which, again, is also bang on trend for this autumn/winter. I have worn mine either over a stripy tee or with a black dress and it really can change the look of an outfit in an instant. You can see a picture of this bib necklace in my October Must Haves.

The Clinic actor Amy Huberman was with me on the night and she wore a midnight blue sparkly wrap top by Joanne Hynes which has touches of sheer on the shoulders. Needless to say I saw about four ladies purchasing the very same top! At  €240, it is an affordable indulgence worn best with black skinny jeans.

Joanne also has dresses and coats in velvet which, as we all know, has made a comeback this season.
