Before we delve into today’s feature, let us first give you some background about todays’s lovely contributor, Sonya Lennon.
In addition to working with Brendan Courtney presenting RTE’s Off the Rails, Sonya is a fashion stylist with a career spanning styling, fashion show production, costume design and writing – just last year she published ‘Off The Rails- Love Your Look’ -her first book which she co wrote with her fellow Off the Rails presenter, Brendan Courtney.
Needless to say, Sonya has a full plate, so we were really thrilled when she accepted our offer to talk spring summer essentials in today’s Stylist’s Picks!
What’s your favourite piece of jewellery?
I’ve just devoured the most amazing book called Rare Bird of Fashion – The irreverent Iris Apfel, Amazon.co.uk (from £15). It’s a photographic catalogue of the life’s work/wardrobe of an amazing and unique style icon.
This believes that rather than ‘take one thing off’ a la Coco Chanel, one should ‘put one more thing on!’ To understand the value of personalised style, buy this book!
It’s made me re-evaluate accessories. Since I read it, I’ve found myself gorging on jewellery of all kinds.
What’s your favourite perfume and do you change scents come spring/summer time ?
I’m very fussy about fragrance. As much as I have tried to break out, I always find myself coming back to the Comme Des Garcons stable. My favourite winter fragrance is their signature scent.
As the weather gets a little friendlier I move to Comme des Garcons White, it’s lighter and very hard to get, last bought in Florence.
Is there a handbag you’d like or have already bought with the new season in mind?
I’ve always detested the idea of the ‘It Bag’ and don’t ever think about sartorial needs in seasonal terms. My time to buy something comes when I find something that interests me.
Have you a dress in mind for this spring summer?
I love dresses for their simplicity and power, but I’m currently more inspired by separates. At the moment I’m wearing a collection of tobacco and ochre coloured items, mixed up with some irresistible nude tones. But, to more accurately answer your question, I’m a big fan of Acne and bought a genius nude T-Shirt dress from Smock which does many things.
Which shoes would you love to wear once the cold has departed?
I just spent the weekend doing style workshops in Kildare Village, and anyone who knows me knows that I love a find. I just bought tan sandals in butter soft leather from Bally and sense that a gap has been filled. I’ll sleep well tonight!

Hi Susan, It’s surprising as nude tones don’t suit all Irish lassies! whatever you think of her style, I definitely think she dresses for her figure
