Style Update from the Irish Derby

This summer is hotting up with race days and with them come a slew of ‘Best Dressed Lady’ competitions. Some critics compare them to the Lovely Lady competition from Father Ted however there are 3 which stand out for me – The Irish Derby at the Curragh, the Dublin Horse Show and Galway Races.

It was refreshing to see someone in separates (aka a skirt and top as opposed to a dress) win at The Irish Derby last weekend– a far cry from the ‘same same’  ladies who travel the ‘lovely ladies’ circuit in the hope of winning.

Catriona Hanley, a nurse from Raheen in Co. Limerick who works in the Mater was wearing a beautiful dress by Bastyan, a jacket from Mary Katrantzou and headpiece from Irish Milliner Mark T. Burke. Caitriona won a shopping spree at BTs, a Boodles diamond necklace and a trip to Dubai.  Speaking about her win Catriona said “I’m completely over the moon to win such an amazing prize. I can’t wait to book my trip to Dubai and to pick up all my holiday goodies at Brown Thomas! My husband Jason is an Engineer in Saudi Arabia so I can’t wait to spend time with him in Dubai.”

Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh

I have a serious style crush on former Made in Chelsea TV star Millie Mackintosh, who judged the competition on the day. Here’s how to shop her look:

Nude dress: Victoria Beckham ‘ponte’ dress at Brown Thomas.

Clutch: Victoria Beckham at Brown Thomas

Necklace: Boodles, Grafton St, Dublin

Head piece: Mark T Burke Millinery

Snakeskin shoes: Kurt Geiger

I met Victoria Beckham (and baby Harper!) when I was one of the lucky few journalists & bloggers in Ireland invited to interview her when she first launched in BTs in July 2012. I’d love to wear one of her dresses… some day! But until then, I’ll finish with this style tip…

Style Tip:

At €1,175 for Millie’s Victoria Beckham dress, it’s quite the splurge.  You can get the look for less with this nude dress from Lipsy (it’s the Kardashian Kollection Mesh Panel Dress £30/ 38 Euro approx).
