Each New Year, I try and plan for the year ahead in terms of beauty purchases, especially skincare. If I have a perfume or moisturizer coming to an end, I’m always on the lookout for the next one and keen to try new stuff.
Inevitably, though, as with my clothes choices, I am often swayed by offers and the beauty trends of the day and end up buying on impulse when I spot a particular beautiful something I like.
The following are currently hits in the WhatShewears.ie office:
Peach Lips
Spring is an uplifting time as colours become brighter, lighter and happier looking! I daren’t wear peachy colours clothes wise but when it comes to lips it’s a different matter. Stila do a fab peachy gloss but alas they no longer sell in Ireland. A close substitute is Maybelline’s Shine Sensational Gloss called Mad About Melon (€6), which is a gorgeous peachy lip gloss in a flattering shade.
Side Plaits
You all know that we’re big fans of boho plaits. But there’s a new one in town – The low slung plait was all the rage at the Alexander Wang show at New York Fashion Week SS10 last September.
Models had extensions with hair brushed to the side, plaited and then secured with a small elastic. The style is meant to look messy and looks good on Kate Bosworth and bad on Dannii Minogue (because the rest of her hair was short and mullet like).
If you’ve got the length, then prep your hair before drying by running Redken’s Aerate 08 Bodifying Cream Mousse (€16) from roots to tips.
If you’ve short hair and want to try this look, opt for the clip in side plait or indeed a clip in ponytail which you can plait yourself.
Travel sized skincare & Free Stuff
Everything is being downsized these days and I have to admit that on a recent spa break away with girlfriends, I forgot to bring my toiletries, and was lost without them. So I’ve vowed to have a spare “mini”set on hand and use this for my short trips away and holidays. These are handy when flying too as hand luggage liquids have to be fewer than 100ml). Boots is great for packs of mini plastic to put your grooming essentials into while travelling.
This sounds like hard work for some who’d prefer to buy miniature sets of their skincare and beauty must haves to take with them. Look out for giveaways or offers at your favourite beauty counter, sometimes they give away samples or miniatures with a purchase.
So whether it’s a trend for this season that tickles your fancy or an amazing offer, as long as the end result makes you look and feel amazing, it’s a Spring Beauty Must Have.
