Muse of the Month: Sonya Lennon

By Linda Gallagher

Our October ‘Muse of the Month’ is ‘Off the Rails’ presenter Sonya Lennon.

With over twenty years experience in the Fashion business, this attractive mother of two is primarily a fashion stylist but has carved out a very successful career in other areas of the industry; fashion show production and as a costume designer for both stage and screen (her list of credits include the films ‘Adam & Paul’ and the multi award winning ‘Garage’).

Sonya has just launched her first book ‘Off The Rails- Love Your Look’, which she co wrote with her fellow OTR presenter, Brendan Courtney. This comprehensive style guide is full of practical information aimed at real women and has some great tips on dressing for your shape. Priced at €16.99 it may make a good Christmas gift for the fashionista friend in your life.

Sonya has a very distinctive way of dressing and chooses pieces that emphasise her hourglass figure. The result is feminine, confident and fun. A huge fan of vintage and high street clothes, she often combines both to create an individual look.

Sonya Lennon was one of those who attended the Vintage Fashion Fair recently, and declared herself very impressed with the event, and with the fashion in particular. Here’s a pic of her at the event.

As Muse and Fashion Advisor to Irish knitwear designer Tim Ryan, Sonya gets a sneak preview of his forthcoming collections. In fact, at the races in Leopardstown last February, she wore a violet sweater dress from his Autumn/Winter 09 collection . Lennon accessorised it with a purple patent belt (to define her tiny waist), discreet jewellery and flame coloured tresses. Tim Ryan knitwear is available from Elaine Curtis.

Tim Ryan was also her designer of choice when she attended a party last week for the opening of the new cosmetics hall in Arnotts. Here right she is seen wearing a grey sleeveless dress and funky knee high boots. Kohl rimmed eyes and tousled hair completed her rock chick look. For the cost conscious, Topshop have a grey knitted dress in stock but with full sleeves and there are similar boots available from Faith.

At the launch of the new Annoushka jewellery boutique at Brown Thomas this month, pictured left, Sonya showcased many of this seasons key trends -statement shoulders, a sequinned skirt and 1940’s style blouse. An element of luxury was introduced in the Pauric Sweeney python handbag, available from The Design Centre.

With her keen eye and the refreshing enthusiasm she brings to her work, coupled with a willingness to experiment with both her clothes and hair, Sonya Lennon is the perfect choice for our ‘Muse of the Month.’

Love her structured style and how she doesn’t slavishly follow trends but always looks incredibly stylish.
