Add a bow to your string

Add a bow to your string of clothes and accessories!

As fashion returns to ladylike elegance, bows are THE DETAIL on everything this season from handbags to dresses to blouses to skirts and even hairstyles. Not one to shy from the cameras, Lady GaGa went for a Minnie Mouse-type bow, styled with her very own hair, in London earlier this year.

Feminine and fabulous bows graced the catwalk too. Accessory-wise they were on shoes at Chanel and clutch bags at Lanvin. Big dramatic bows appeared at D&G with metallic detailing finishing at the knee for a classic look and also on party dresses at Sonia Rykiel.

Sonia Rykiel for H&M

Actress Kate Bosworth wore one of Rykiel’s bow detail dresses to celebrate the launch of the French fashion house’ new collection for H&M which kicked off with a huge party in Paris last week. Called Sonia Rykiel pour H&M, the capsule collection consists of lingerie and is available in 1,500 H&M shops worldwide and also in Sonia Rykiel boutiques.

Sonia Rykiel for H&M lingerie is available in Ireland at Dundrum and Liffey Valley H&M shops.

However, we’re REALLY looking forward to the second part of her collaboration with H&M, a women’s knitwear line, which is set to launch on 20 February 2010. Knitwear is how this Parisian made her name and her designs for H&M will be even more exclusive as they will only be available in 250 H&M shops around the world. It’s not known which Irish H&M shops, if any, will stock this collection, but my hunch is that at least the flagship H&M in Ireland (Dundrum) will get it.

Bow Blouse

Summer saw lots of bow tops in the shops – from rib vest tops (pictured is one from Oasis) to floaty blouses, from designer brands to the high street. It’s a great feminine touch which appeals to most.

Not a girly girl? Then toughen up the blouse with a pair of leather trousers or a leather skirt, and perhaps some studded bracelets.

For winter, you can revamp your bow blouse by wearing it with a woolly cardigan or blazer. The best thing about the festive season is that it brings fabulous party looks, and those with bow detail are no exception. For evening wear, go for embellished styles such as this black bow jacket with sequins from Topshop. (This also comes in cream).

Alternatively, wear your bow blouse with tailored shorts and opaque’s or trousers to work for a smart look.

Alice Bands / Hair Bands

If you’re not keen on a bow top or dress, then perhaps a hair band will fit the bill? Also referred to as an Alice band, it’s a key trend this season, seen lots on Cheryl and Dannii on X Factor and now you can grab your own version from Accessorize who have everything from leopard print to polka dot to a kimono twist and oversized print bow to add to your string of accessories!
