Guest Editor: Sarah Rickard

Sarah Rickard began her styling career in the coolest of all fashion capitals, NYC. Her next stop was London where she studied Journalism, Styling and Design in the esteemed Central Saint Martin’s (other notable alumni include Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo). Sarah has since returned to Dublin where she’s become one of Ireland’s most admired stylists.

As well as freelancing for top Irish publications and big advertising campaigns, Sarah is the chief stylist for Irish Tatler. Her career highlight to date was having a selection of her work published in Barry McCall’s book.

She describes her personal style as “casual, comfy, and a bit childish” and her top tip is “Just be yourself, don’t be a slave to trends and flesh flashing isn’t classy!”

So what is Sarah coveting for the season ahead? Read on to find out, as Sarah joins us as this month’s Guest Editor.

Shoes:

I’m living in my Kurt Geiger gold hi-tops (pictured 2) at the mo’, I really want to do the stylist thing and purchase a pair of Acne pistol boots but I keep spending my money on tops and cardigans (I’m slightly obsessed with cardigans right now!)

Perfume:

Hermes Poivre Samarcande – I got it for my boyfriend when we started going out so now it’s our fragrance! (pictured 1)

Spring Summer 2012 Designer Collection She’s Most Looking Forward to:

Prada, she just gets better and better! She always does something completely different and is truly inspired!

Autumn/Winter 2011 Designer Collection:

Miu Miu for its sophisticated and elegant take on the 40’s and for their kick ass shoes!! Louis Vuitton was also a visual delight.

A/W trend and how to wear it:

Burgundy with pops of pink inspired by The Kooples collection. Chunky knits over check trousers worn with brogues and a skinny belt inspired by Celine, grown up glamour inspired by Gucci and Tom Ford.

Highstreet Shop:

I’m loving Warehouse at the moment; their collection is very heavily designer influenced especially by Miu Miu and Celine.

River Island are doing amazing Gucci inspired dresses and I can’t get enough of their Dries van Noten inspired printed kimonos. I love Cos for understated pieces.

Shop in Dublin:

Smock ,  Bow and Dolls (pictured) are all run by true Dublin creatives. I love their eclectic mix of designers. I’m also mad about interiors and love the design of the stores. Dolls is my dream boutique and when I win the lotto I’m going to open one up just like it! Watch out Petria!!

Make-up:

I’m pretty bad with make-up.   I’ve been doing the same thing for years! Can’t go outside without my Lancôme liquid liner, love Bobbi Brown blusher, Chanel eye shadow, Girls Allowed lashes (Nicola’s!) Mac lippy in “girl about town” (at the weekend pictured 3) and “faux” for everyday wear.  I’m still searching for the right foundation; I have tons of half used bottles!!

Dress:

I’m trying to move away from dresses because I was addicted to girlie dresses and thought I needed to grow up a bit, apparently growing up involves dressing like a boy as I’ve been living in runners, jeans and baggy sweaters! I just need to be practical as I spend most of my day running around and carrying bags. Ah the glamour of it all…

Brand of Jeans:

I’ve spent so much money on designer jeans but I always end up going back to my Topshop ones, either Leigh or Baxter.  My fave are an old pair of Pippa jeans. They stopped doing them, sad face!

Handbag:

My arm candy of choice is a Chloe bag that my darling got me for my birthday… although being a fickle fashionista, as of three weeks ago I really want the Mulberry Polly Push Lock bag in burgundy (pictured 4)!

Hairstyle:

I’ve just recently darkened my hair a bit (it was getting too blonde) and I really like it, I think I might go darker again. I’ve really flat hair so I  like wearing my hair in a messy bun with my full fringe but I’m always in such a rush in the morning that I end up twisting my fringe back and pulling my hair up! My friend just bought me a spinny brush though so I might be sporting a bouffant soon!

Liked her comment about flassing flesh, she say’s it right which you have to be yourself, its no good following trends if they don’t suit you.
