Look for Less: Rachel Bilson

We have not been this obsessed with shirts since the paisley ones we wore in the 90’s and check it out, this separate has wangled it’s way back into fashion favour and is now a key piece of our wardrobe – we’d forgotten how practical it really is!

We’re not talking the icky white blouse sometimes worn to the office under suits but instead the new league of block colour or floral shirts worn in or out of trousers and skirts, buttoned up or worn open, which can either nod to the mannish trend which is so current right now or be more girly and feminine if you choose floral, sheer or pussy bow styles.

Take Rachel Bilson as our shirty example, pictured here at a CBS party.

She gets our seal of approval in head to toe Erdem pre-spring/summer 2012 (their floral theme from SS11 continues) ; in a floral shirt and a pair of orange-red tapered trousers.

Her arm candy consists of a black Giuseppe Zanotti clutch bag and she adds some edge to the look in a pair of leopard print Loubs – and all this for the red carpet!  Who knew that animal prints and floral could work together?

Style tip: Bright trousers and jeans, which were so much part of the colour blocking trend this summer, are still key items for autumn winter 2011 and spring summer 2012.   Let the coloured trouser be your stand out item and keep the rest of your outfit in the same colour. For the brave and sure of style, mix up your patterns like Rachel Bilson did. From JBrand jeans to tapered trousers, there’s every coloured trouser of the rainbow out there right now for you to choose from.

And now, how to get the look for less.

Topshop is so good at pulling off the catwalk looks for less – they have the leopard print shoes  (sans red sole but heh) and you can pick up the trousers at Dorothy Perkins.

Warehouse AW collection rocks – but this floral sheer shirt, from their SS11 line is still in stock online in most sizes.

Top it all off with an amazing patent clutch, like only Aldo can do and you’ve got Bilson’s look on a budget nailed.
