Peter O’Brien for Arnotts

Last week I popped along to Peter O’Brien’s inaugural collection for Arnotts launch.

His previous collections have been with Awear, where I really didn’t see the fit (Awear is more about buying your weekend outfit that a couture piece!) and as the marriage unfolded, I think that the new collaboration with the Irish department store will be more up his street.

His new line for Arnotts is a capsule 23 piece suite in black, navy and camel with flashes of white which includes wool cashmere coats, a pencil skirt, a classic trouser, a slim pant, silk blouses and four dresses, which complete the collection. Prices range from €110 for a wrap blouse to €495 for a fitted wool cashmere coat.

If I could get my hands on the little black dress with sheer sleeves, I’d be a happy woman, but other than that the collection is not really “me” – it’s for an older woman who’s style is timeless and elegant.

Check it out for yourself in the video I shot below, where Peter talks about his first job, which coincidentally was in the display department of Arnotts, where he was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent.

I also bumped into David Greene, TV3 Style Wars winner. See my interview with him here.

For a one off Peter O’Brien piece in aid of a good cause, his We are Tee design for Oxfam Ireland is €35 at Awear. It features the cutest cow on the bottom right hand side – and is definitely one Peter O’Brien piece I’ll be buying.

About Peter O’ Brien

Recently described as ‘Fashion Royalty’ Ireland’s International Fashion Designer, Peter O’Brien first graduated from St Martin’s School of Art (now Central St Martin’s) in 1980 –  followed by a year’s post grad study at Parsons in New York.  Peter’s career spans design roles at The House of Christian Dior, Givenchy and Chloe.  However he is best known for his time as Chief Designer with The House of Rochas in Paris.  Peter is the only graduate of St Martin’s to design his own Haute Couture collection under his own name, shown in Paris in 2000.

I think that when the Awear and Peter O’Brien collaboration started, Awear were much more about key pieces each season where as now they are very much about what is very in the moment.
I haven’t bought anything there in a long time as I find that, apart from their jeans, I can’t see a lot of it being on trend in a year.
Maybe that is just me though.
For the 4 years that the collaboration with Awear took place, it was always released around my birthday – the perfect excuse for a treat!
This weekend, I guess I may just hit up Arnotts for a look see!

Yes go and check it our Orla, it’s on the 1st floor, he has a massive section to himself for a capsule collection.
I have to say that I like Awears collection this season – the swinging 60s look, leopard print and gilets, they are improving with every year. But I see what you mean, it’s very trend based.
I still get compliements about a pair of skinny jeans I bought there 3 years ago and no-one can then believe they are awear!
