Cancel that trip to New York or Edinburgh because Dublin will ring in 2012 in style, with a jam packed live entertainment schedule including its first New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert on College Green which will be headlined by Irish Rock and Indie sensations, The Coronas announced are the headline act for the outdoor concert. The Dublin quartet will join some of Ireland’s top musicians including Paul Brady, Damien Dempsey, Bressie and members of the Riverdance troupe on December 31st for a New Year’s Eve celebration to rival anywhere in the world.

Part of the three day NYE Dublin festival taking place from December 30th 2011 – 1st January 2012, the historic city centre location will be transformed into an outdoor concert arena featuring building projections, special effects and performances by some of Ireland’s most-loved musicians. Tickets for the NYE Countdown Concert (over 18s only) which runs from 8pm to 12.30am are priced at €10 and are on sale from the festival website www.nyedublin.ie and www.ticketmaster.ie or by phoning Ticketmaster on 0818719300. A percentage of ticket sales will be given to support Focus Ireland, a national housing and homeless charity.

This New Year’s Eve, the historic side streets of the city will be home to a number of micro festival hubs, which will pop-up on streets including South William Street, Dame Lane, Duke Street and The Grand Social Plaza. Street furniture will be set-out and the stage set, as DJ’s perform on the streets and in key venues in each area. A colourful array of street performers including, stilt walkers, mime artists, a clown policeman, jugglers, fire breathers and face painters will hit each street en masse ‘flash mob’ style bringing performance and entertainment with music and fire before disappearing into the night.

South William Street
Dublin’s most fashionable street will be taken over with music and performance as well as night market stalls and visuals. Expect fun and frolics with Dublin’s hip-young crowd taking to the street, as live music on the historic steps of Powerscourt Townhouse will work the crowd into a frenzy in the build up to the countdown celebrations. Relax and soak up the electric atmosphere in specially laid out street furniture. The street will be closed to traffic from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.

Dame Lane
Several venues on Dame Lane will come together for NYE Dublin to host a spectacular celebration expect live music and impromptu performances as the sound of music resonates through the streets . Street furniture, food stalls and a vintage flea market will add to the magical atmosphere of this unique Victorian thoroughfare.

Duke Street
On New Years Eve, Duke Street will come alive with the sound of cool music, visuals and street entertainers. The street will be decked out with street furniture, while night markets will offer sizzling treats and festive gifts. Follow in the footsteps of literary legends, Brendan Behan, Patrick Kavanagh and James Joyce by soaking up the unique atmosphere of Duke Street.

Grand Social Plaza
The Grand Social Plaza facing the Ha’penny Bridge will host street activities including street theatre and visual projections. Inside the Grand Social, enjoy performances by The Hot Sprockets with special guests The Stoney Brokes and Guilty Boy Association DJ set in The Loft. DJ Oran will take over The Ballroom for an Indietronic party with everything from Indie, Electronic, Rock N’ Roll, Alternative, Funk and Soul. 9pm till late, admission €7
