Natalie Portman is having a bit of a moment. And it’s all thanks to her lead role in the ballet inspired Black Swan, which is doing for Portman what The Blind Side did for Sandra Bullock.
And being a lady of the moment, we‘ve fittingly crowned her our muse of the month and do secretly hope that the Oscar is hers this year.
Already a winner of a Golden Globe award, Natalie is favoured to scoop an Oscar for her role in Black Swan which has received mixed reviews – the critics from the ballet world feeling it is so clichéd that it has set those back fifty years and her performance as a violently paranoid individual which we found captivating.
Acting aside, the costumes in Black Swan were simply divine, so it was no surprise to hear that they were designed by the sister duo Rodarte. While they were not the film’s official costumiers, their vulture-inspired feathered creation adorned with Swarovski crystals is simply stunning and aptly captures that eerie possessed character so well.
WSW tip – If you are thinking of going to see this movie, I would recommend taking a trip to the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield in Dublin 8. It’s a really nice cinema and feels a little more intimate than the larger ones.
Natalie Portman on the Red Carpet
It was Natalie’s love for Rodarte’s designs that brought them to the table to create the looks for this movie. She is a regular wearer of their dresses on the red carpet; in fact Her 2009 Oscar gown was a pink strapless Grecian style from the design duo. We all wait in anticipation to see what she will wear from this year’s Oscar with baby bump included.
Magazine shoots
Portman’s “moment” is long overdue – just last year she was shot for a Marie Claire cover (again wearing Rodarte but also, Balenciaga and Jonathan Saunders) and this month she shone on the cover of US Vogue in a period inspired shoot.
Natalie Portman’s Off duty Style
Natalie’s off-duty style is much more casual and relaxed. She has an individual and under stated look with flats, sometimes wedges, jeans, blazers and mini dresses being staples in her wardrobe. With her baby on the way, this wardrobe combination will work just perfectly.

I love her style. I wasn’t a fan of the dress for the Golden Globes but how and ever.
And the work that she put in for Black Swan – Amazing!

Hi Orla,
I wasn’t a fan of her dress either at the Golden Globes, nor at the Cannes Film festival. We’ve high hopes for her at the Oscars though!
Yes I agree she is really good in Black Swan.
