5 Minutes With: Myleene Klass

Myleene Klass launched her first swimwear collection for Littlewoodsireland.ie last week and we went to London to catch up with the star and to find out about the line first hand.

After successful womenswear (read about it here) and lingerie lines for the online store, it was only a matter of time before the former jungle resident launched a swimwear collection, including of course, an iconic white bikini.

Designed to reflect and complement every woman’s shape, the presenter and classical musician has created a swimwear collection that includes bandeau styles, halter necklines, triangle cups and stylish cover ups. Beach glamour is realised through block colour, leopard and retro Hawaiian prints and a flirty red ruffled two piece. Key in the collection is a white broderie anglais bikini reminiscent of the one Myleene wore during her time on ‘I’m a Celebrity’.

WSW: What started out as a small collection now encompasses an entire wardrobe, recently branching into swimwear.  How instrumental are you in the design process with Littlewoods?

MK: Very. Ask me anything about the design process! Some people think “Oh, she’s just stamped her name on it but I can tell you, I’ve been there from the start. I am amazed at the amount of trust that the design team have put in me. Everything from the pantone colours to the swatches, seeing how one of our factories has interpreted a design…not liking it and going back to the drawing board…everything through to the model fittings.

WSW: The scenes from ‘Im a Celebrity’ where you wore THAT white bikini is remembered by many. What is the standout swimwear piece for you from the Littlewoods collaboration?

MK: The orange bikinis! When you choose such a vibrant colour, you’re treading a fine line but the design is sophisticated and the utility style belt makes them a real stand out style.  Plus, they’re underwired.  And lined. So, there are no surprises when you come out of the pool!

WSW: What about the girl who doesn’t wear bikinis? Have you got any beach cover ups?

MK: The lace grandad shirt in white is perfect. Plus there are great maxi dresses which are ideal for covering up.

WSW:  As a working mum yourself, what is your go-to look on a daily basis?

MK: I think that you can’t go wrong with a tea dress worn with a little leather jacket thrown over it. With the job I do, I am running around a lot, so I need to be comfortable. This morning I added a cardigan too as it was cold but it means that it works for a TV meeting, a beauty meeting, I can play music in it – it’s very versatile.  As a result there are a lot of tea dresses in the (Myleene Klass womenswear) collection. And body con dresses! They sell fantistically. Our customer likes her bold colours and likes to wear clothes that  she can have fun with.
