Most Stylish Lady at the Irish Derby

Pictured left to right: Arlene Hopkins, Alex Faye, Mary McCartney and Aine Bergin.

Tweeting and texting away from the depths of The Curragh Racecourse yesterday, ladies day style voting went all modern this year when the votes for Best Dressed Lady were open to the public for the first time ever.

Pictures of the style from the day were instantly posted online and on Kildare Village (the sponsor’s) Facebook and Twitter pages and for those not present, it was easy to keep up online – even the previous day I caught photos of the Most Stylish Hat Competition on Twitter from one of the judges, Angela Scanlon. (If you missed the Most Stylish Hat winner, catch it here).

Alex Faye from Ballsbridge in Dublin is pictured at the Curragh Racecourse after winning yesterday’s (Sunday, 27th June) Kildare Village Most Stylish Lady Competition at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. Alex won a shopping spree at Kildare Village worth a massive €3,000 as well as a specially commissioned portrait by celebrity judge Mary McCartney.

Alex made her hat herself the night before the Derby, her dress is from All Saints at Kildare Village and her bag was by Anya Hindmarch, also at Kildare Village.

World-renowned photographer, Mary McCartney jetted in to shortlist the six finalists, alongside Maureen Bergin, Kildare Village outlet shopping. The overall winner was then, for the first time ever, selected by the Irish public via SMS public vote and online at www.derby.kildarevillage.com.

The two runners up Arlene Hopkins from Dublin and Aine Bergin, also from Dublin, who received Kildare Village gift cards to the value of €1,000.

Here’s a low down of how the winner and finalists put their outfits together:

Runner up – Aine Bergin. Dress: Oasis, Hat: Mad hatter, Shoes: Schuh
Runner up – Arlene Hopkins. Dress: TK Max, Shoes: Buffalo, Hat: friends (House of Fraser), Jacket: topshop.

Mary McCartney (Celebrity Judge) wears Stella McCartney and Karen Millen.

P.S. We have some more photos of our own race day style pics over on Facebook.

  1. Elaine McGarry Says:

Was not impressed at all with the judges choices at the weekend, either day. They do no justice whatsoever to the fabulous style that was there. I know my hats and the choices on Saturday were not good hats. I won’t be attending another Kildare Village sponsored raceday event.

  2. Dandelion Daydreamer Says:

Gorgeous, love Arlenes outfit! Just saw you on the Irish blogs facbook page, glad I popped over :)

  3. Catriona Says:

I dont agree with the judges selection – the winner’s outfit is not very apt for races, more like a dress you’d wear on a nite out :(

  4. Mella Says:

I love Arlene’s outfit. It’s innovative, chic, and that quirky collar adds an individual edge to the look. Definintely my fav!

  5. Lia Caira Says:

I thought she looked amazing but unfortunately there are no pictures of that gorgeous coat she was wearing. It finished off the outfit to a T. And the handbag was sensational!! These pictures do not do it justice!
