Chief among the fashionably cool accessories that set my heart racing two years ago were the Burberry spiked necklaces and bangles which they sent their autumn winter 09 catwalk models decked out in.
While the Burberry price tag (each accessory costs around €1000) is far out of my reach, there’s a new Irish designer about, Merle O’Grady, who makes this spiked dream a reality for celebs and fashionistas alike, at a more accessible price point.
The spiked accessory has continued to trend with the likes of Rihanna and Alicia Keys wearing multi-pronged, metal bracelets, earrings and necklaces, adding a rock chick cool to outfits without having to totally embrace the full rock chick look.
Cheryl Cole is a more recent adopter of the spike, seen here in Paris on 3rd June at the exclusive VIP Rooms wearing a silver bodycon Herve Leger dress and Nicholas Kirkwood platforms shoes. The chunky cuff and earrings are by designer Merle O’Grady, which gave her look an edge while she kept her hair in a classic Cheryl Cole bouffant up-do.
London-based Irish designer Merle O’Grady’s range of luxury fashion jewellery has been featured in Vogue, ELLE, Grazia, InStyle and numerous other international fashion & style publications and has attracted celebrity fans such as Beyonce & Rihanna.
At least something in Ms. Cole’s designer wardrobe is now within our grasp. If you’d like the exact pieces Cheryl wears, ask for the ‘Bombshell Bracelet’ and the ‘Spike Pearl Earrings’ from the Mechanical Luxe collection available from Rebecca Davis in The Westbury Mall, Dublin, Caru on Drury Street and www.my-wardrobe.com from early August.
The AW10-11 Collection ‘Bombshell Bracelet’ and ‘Pearl Earrings’ will be available at Rebecca Davis in the Westbury Mall and RebeccaDavis.com from the end of July. The bracelet will retail at €265 and the earrings will retail at €85.
Just don’t poke anyone’s eye out when you’re giving them a hug!
