Interiors: How I Styled My Living Room

We moved into our new house this summer and the first thing we bought was a bed closely followed by a couch.  Luckily a friend had told us that both items take a few weeks to deliver so we had them ordered 6 weeks in advance of our move-in date.

We had nothing to sit on for the first few days when we moved in, so when the couch arrived, it was glorious! We wanted a dark grey sofa which was wide enough to curl up on and have an afternoon nap on and fitted with the grey floor boards and white walls in the room. I had just recently discovered the French Connection range for DFS, the sofas are contemporary looking and are all handmade in the U.K.  When we saw the Quartz sofa, we knew this was the sleek look we were after and paired it with the Quartz armchair, which sits in the bay window of the room- a whole corner now designated to reading and where, when I can find the time, I curl up on the armchair with a throw and snuggle into the chair.

The living room is the only room in the house that’s furnished so far– although I liked the grey and white Scandi look to the bones of the room, I wanted to add a touch of opulence and coziness to the room which is north facing so it needed a bit of a lift. Britney McConnell from Laurel & Wolf, an online interior design service I found out about by reading ELLE magazine, helped me pull the room together through a series of online consultations. It’s an interior design service and a shopping list and although much of the products were US based, Britney persevered with me and found local alternatives for me. This is the room design that we finally decided on:

Laurel and wolfe

Soft furnishings such as Mongolian fur cushions on a blue velvet chair, coupled with an ornate mirror and marble tables and a light grey wool rug completed the look.

The light fixture was hard to find but I searched for weeks on end and finally found this one at in Athlone where they recommended I go for the the vintage filament bulbs, where you can see the inside of the bulb.

It’s been a few months in the making and I am still searching for a TV cabinet and poufs but am delighted with the room so far.
