Pictured left to right: Agnes Deyn, Michelle Williams and Angelina Jolie have all worn leather pencil skirts on the red carpet.
Leather skirts are nothing new to the world of fashion but there’s something about a leather pencil skirt that screams ladylike, tough and sexy – all at the same time
There are a whole lot of editors and fashion bloggers rocking a leather mini skirt right now, but you really gotta have great legs to wear one which is where the pencil skirt comes in.
Its longer length shows just enough below-the-knee-leg to make it super flattering and we love the contrast between the demure shape and the sexy material that is leather.
Where to buy leather skirts
A real leather skirt is worth the investment and while you can spend anything up to €1,600 on a leather pencil skirt (yes that’s what one from Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen’s fashion label The Row will cost you on Netaporter!), we found this perfect faux leather, midi leather skirt at River Island for €40.
While we love the classic black leather skirt, it looks equally fabulous in autumn’s key colour, burgundy red. Michelle Williams is wearing it already and if you’re keen to get the look, Penneys/Primark have a wine coloured pencil skirt hitting the shops next week (€21).
How to wear a leather pencil skirt
Buying a leather pencil skirt is the easy part; it’s how to wear it that’s tricky. Luckily, it’s an item that’s really versatile so the styling options are endless.
If you like the prim ladylike look that’s back in vogue, wear your leather pencil skirt with a tucked in white silk blouse, just like Angelina Jolie (pictured).
An alternative way to wear it is with a buttoned up shirt tucked into the skirt.
Perhaps your style is more tough-girl than sexy secretary? Then look to model Agnes Deyn and wear it with a band t-shirt, again tucked in.
Or make like Michelle Williams and wear your leather skirt with a cropped knit.
Wear now with bare legs and strappy heels and come winter time, wear with opaque tights and chunky heeled boots.Tweet
