Get the Look: Layering Delicate Jewellery

As regularly espoused by all from What She Wears, there’s nothing we love more than a decent selection of jewellery to ramp up an outfit for any occasion. Our jewellery boxes brim over with pieces from high street afficonados H&M, Penneys and Zara, with the occasional Joanne Hynes or Merle O’Grady piece thrown in for good measure.

Statement jewellery has become increasingly costume-like in recent seasons, kick-started back in the early naughties when boho babes Sienna Miller and Nicole Richie began wearing the contents of their jewellery boxes all in the one go.

Pared back for SS13, jewellery is more refined and elegant, worn in tones of gold and rose gold. A great look for those not wishing to shell out a fortune for another ‘trendy’ look, most women can layer delicate jewellery with other pieces they may already own from their pre-Boho days.

For layering bracelets, look to Alex and Ani – where delicate golds and silvers can be stacked up your arm.

Looking to Balenciaga’s SS13 catwalk looks, outfits were outshone by accompanying accessories in the form of twisted metal rings layered on each finger. While models were dripping in gold, the look was effortlessly simple and polished; a return to the elegance that has been somewhat lacking in accessories in recent seasons.

How to layer necklaces?

Choose a pendant necklace (perhaps with a detail such as a horn) and wear it with a choker and a bar necklace. The idea is to see two to three different necklace lengths. Loulerie is the ideal spot to shop for these in real gold or Forever 21 for budget options.

Taking this look and running with it, style delicate chains, rings and bangles in the same way. Layers upon layers of fine gold jewellery adorning wrists and fingers is a refreshing take on accessorising for SS13.

Below are What She Wears’ Top Picks for layering delicate jewellery:

Left-Right: Seoidín Crochet earrings with Cubic Zirconia €105, Seoidín Stacking ring €129, Mo Muse Agate gold hoop earrings €50 from Bow, Chupi feather ring €74, Beatriz Palacios brass necklace €29 and Loulerie’s skinny bangles €40.

Availability: Seoidín and Loulerie pieces can be shopped online at Seoidí and respectively.  Mo Muse is available at Bow in the Powerscourt Town Centre.

I love layering necklaces but how do you do it without them getting knotted up!

Hi Julie, I think the key is to wear different lengths of necklaces
