Blossom Hill Ladies Day at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show got off to a sunny start in the RDS yesterday and crowds gathered around to watch the jumping competitions.
Yesterday was Ladies Day and with a trip to New York worth €8,000 up for grabs for the best dressed lady, organisers got well over the expected 500 entries on the RDS band lawn at noon.
MC Brendan Courtney kept everyone entertained while Judges Lucy Kennedy and fashion designer to Lady GaGa Sorcha O’Rathaligh got to meet all the entrants on stage.
The winner, Lucy Gilmore Kennedy, a young milliner from Co. Wicklow wore one of her own headpieces, a Calvin Klein dress which was a present from her boyfriend and Jimmy Choo wedges. You can check out her hats at lgmhats.com
Meanwhile, Maeve Byrne, sporting her granny’s Blumarine coat from her days in 1960’s Paris, won the Most Elegant with an Attitude prize, sponsored by Longines. She got to take home a beautiful Saint Imier timepiece worth over €3000.
Aisling Ahern was announced as the overall winner of the Who Wants to be a Milliner (the competition organised by Brendan Courtney and judged by Philip Treacy, to promote the hat makers of Ireland), pipping some of Ireland’s most magical milliners Fiona Mangan, Carol Kennelly and Jennifer Wrynne at the post.

looked through all the style what was Kathy O’ Connor wearing her shape was all over the place no good at all. Loved the yellow coat. The overall winner was a bit devoid of colour very plain to me but then I was not a judge.Saw far superior outfits and hats. Loved the overall style especiall the Blue Jacket with the shorts dresses up this outfit very well.
