Julia Roberts is one of those celebrities who never seems to get it wrong. She rarely turns up on ‘worst dressed’ lists, she’s never been snapped stumbling out of a club at 4am and she looks just as fantastic today as she did in Pretty Woman. Her classic makeup look can work for women of all ages and is perfect for day-to-evening wear.
Face of Lancome’s latest perfume “La vie est belle” (pictured above), here’s how to get her polished makeup look in just four steps – no fancy makeup artists needed.
Step 1: Perfect Base
Hydrated skin is happy skin, so don’t skip your moisturiser. There are so many on the market, from creams to oils to serums, but the most important thing is to make sure you’re using the right product for your skin type. Massage yours in gently and once it’s absorbed it will give you the perfect base to get Julia’s flawless look.
Step 2: Even Complexion
Primers really do make a difference to your finished look and, again, there is one out there for every skin type and desired finish. Almost universally, they minimise pores and even skin tone, meaning your foundation doesn’t have to work to hard!
Buff Teint idole Ultra 24Hour foundation into the skin with a foundation brush for that flawless finish. Lancôme makeup artist Shehla Sheikh recommends adding a little concealer, one shade lighter than your foundation, to highlight and correct any blemishes. Just use it under your eyes, across the eyelids and around your nose and chin, et voilà!
Step 3: Perfect Peepers
Next to the eyes; Julia is a fan of clean, natural makeup and perfect brows. This is not Scouse-brow territory, use a pencil a little lighter than your natural brow colour.
When choosing your shadow think soft, coppery colours. Shela advises you apply all over the eyelid to just above the socket, and then blend it into the inner corners of your eyes. To finish, all you need is a quick clamp of an eyelash curler and lashings of volumising, black mascara such as Lancôme Hypnose Star mascara.
Step 4: Lovely Lips
And for the finishing touch dab a little concealer around the edge of your lips and line with an almost nude pencil such as Lancome lip liner in 301. This will define the shape of your lips and prevent any dreaded lipstick bleeding. Top this off with a coat of beige-pink lipstick, like Lancôme Rouge in Love lipstick in 240M. It’s the ultimate ‘your lips but better’ shade.
And it’s as simple as that! This really is such a simple but effective makeup look that can easily be turned into a night time look with a little eyeliner. What more could you need?
To recreate Julia’s makeup as she appears in Lancôme’s La vie est Belle ad (pictured above), Shehla suggests the following Lancome products:
Skin care: Genifique, Visionnaire
Complexion: La Base Pro, Teint Idole Ultra 03, Teint idole Ultra concealer 01, Blush Subtil 02
Eyes: Le Regard Pro Eyebrow Kit, Hypnose star mascara, Ombre Hypnose, P204
Lips: Lip pencil 301, Absolu Rouge La Base balm, Rouge in Love lipstrick in 240m
