Tom Joule began selling clothes at his Dad’s stand at horse and country fairs around England. One day he decided to break from the then norm of browns and greens and sell pink wellingtons.… and low and behold, that day the wellies flew off the shelf. Tom saw that there was an appetite for bright outdoorsy clothes and so Joules, the lifestyle brand, was founded.
Last week Joules opened their 100th store which was also their first in the Republic of Ireland, at 12 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2. I went along to meet the team and to the store opening where I found home wares and colourful outdoorsy clothes for men, women and children.
Famous for their Breton striped tops and colourful wellies, Joules are also great for tweed jackets and caps. I also found a sporty sleeveless puffa/ gilet, as worn lately by Kim Sears (Kim Murray, Andy Murray’s wife). It’s the Marine navy Higham gilet which you can buy in Joules for €69.
Their fine knits also stood out and they had this menswear inspired jumper in maroon which is wool at the front and a fancy silk at the back which I simply had to get my hands on.
You’ll also find scarves, welly socks, Russian faux fur hats, leather Chelsea boots, bright raincoats and much more at this welcome addition to the Irish shopping scene.
