Wardrobe Staple: Jeans

Buying Jeans is top of most women’s shopping nightmares. Getting it right is worth the effort so we have put together a quick guide to this wardrobe staple.

Once you find the perfect pair it’s a great feeling and you will go back for the same brand or style again and again.  If you can only buy one pair of jeans this season, make them a dark pair (in a style that flatters your figure) which can be dressed up at night or down for casual daytime wear.

How to wear skinny jeans

Anne Hathaway  loves her J Brand cropped skinny jeans like these  10″ Ankle Skinny Stretch Jean in charcoal,  pictured here.   Slim cropped jeans are a wonderful alternative to leggings.

So what type of body shape do skinny jeans suit? Most shapes can wear skinny jeans one way or another; however, if you are pear shaped (a hip honey), skinny jeans aren’t so flattering  so aim to cover these to at least half way down your thighs with a tunic top or jumper dress. For other body shapes, wear skinny jeans with a loose shirt or dress, and  if you’re really slim you can go for a  blouse tucked in.

Get the rock chick look by combining skinny jeans with a vest top or for a casual look, wear skinny jeans with ballet pumps. Topshop is our favourite choice for skinny jean shopping and you can get your J Brand jeans from Net-a-porter .

WSW tip # 1: Make sure you buy skinny jeans with elastic in the denim to hug your hips. Otherwise they will get saggy and out of shape.

How to wear boot cut jeans

Boot cut jeans are an all time classic and worn to death before the skinny jean arrived. These jeans are a girl’s best friend which you can wear with anything. If you’re looking for simple, classic jeans, this should be your choice as it suits all shapes. Bootcut jeans cut works best in dark or indigo coloured denim and worn lots by Katie Holmes as she carries Suri from A to B.

If you choose a faded wear style, make sure the “worn” effect is on the thigh part of the jean as this draws the eye in, making your pins seem super skinny!

We like  high street shops  like River Island, Topshop, and Awear who do different leg lengths aswell (short, medium and long). Currently, A-wear have a denim bar with jeans of all styles from €20.

How to wear wide legged jeans

Worn by Kate Moss and perfected by Rachel Bilson, wide legged jeans are very stylish right now. Best for taller types, these are uber flattering as they are cut straight down from your widest point to the ground. When trying on, check that the waistband is tight, so that the back of the jeans looks snug around your bum. Team with a top tucked in top or a loose top which can be cinched in at the waist with a belt. If you’re not so tall, wear wide legged jeans with super-high platforms to pull off this look.

WSW tip #2 : The best style tip we can give you is to flatter your figure at all times rather than follow jean trends (for example, high waisted jeans won’t suit shorter girls), so choose your jean style with care.

Lovin Topshop’s baxter skinny jeans at the moment. Bought dark blue pair last week for €61. They’re faded in the middle so slim the leg and have a bit of give at the top so are a bit more forgiving around the stomach. Haven’t washed them yet but usually with topshop jeans you have to be careful washing them too hot or they’ll get faded and out of shape quickly.

I got the 30″ length so I can wear them as ankle grazers and I love the look with my ankle boots. They look great with heels as well so easy to dress up and down. definitely considering buying them in another colour. Still love the bootcut tho – always a classic!
