5 Minutes With Nina Divito

The Carphone Warehouse has partnered with renowned Irish artist and designer Nina Divito and created two limited edition iPhone 4 covers (€24.90) which are exclusively available in selected Carphone Warehouse stores now.

The two iconic covers capture a confident femininity – The ‘Lisa’ design is a feminine, delicate sandal with a beautiful bow trim, while the ‘Eddie’ design is a bold, one-of-a kind statement shoe.

The iconic covers will give iPhone 4 users the chance to give their phone the designer edge it deserves. Both designs represent the magic that Nina Divito captures when she designs, merging an Irish imagination along with the skill of Italian craftsmanship.

5 Minutes With Nina Divito

I caught up with Nina in person at the launch of the cool fashion accessory, to find out more about the designer herself.

Q: How did you get into shoe design?

A: I started off working as a design assistant to an established footwear designer in film and television and then embarked upon my career as an artist. I initially painted as a hobby and one day my aunt saw a painting of mine and wanted to buy it. The interest in them went from strength to strength and now my paintings, solely of shoes, are sought out by collectors.

I then went on to study footwear design at Cordwainer’s at the London College of Fashion and Model Making for Design and Media at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth and launched my first shoe collection for spring summer 2010.

I needed money to fund my shoe designs as I knew from the beginning that I wanted them to be made from the finest Italian leather with hand stitching and hand craftsmanship throughout, so my paintings were a means of getting to where I am now.

Q: Can you tell me about your autumn winter collection?

A: My shoe collections are trans-seasonal, so when you buy Nina Divito, you have them forever. The autumn winter collection is in the detail – I sourced the lace for one style in Paris while the feathers for another were bought in Venice. They range from ballet pumps to courts to knee high leather boots stitched by hand and vary in price from €350-€1100 and are sold in Brown Thomas.
