Consider yourself a rock chick kinda girl? Then read on.

Underground Danish label Gestuz is now at BT2 and has an edgy, urban twist to it with super soft leather jackets, a great knitwear mix and sexy dresses.

Just to give you some background to the label,  Gestuz have established themselves as a strong brand in Denmark and in Europe and have spread to the US too. In just a few seasons Gestuz is now known for a strong rock chick feel with a feminine edge. They have four main collections a year, with two additional mid season collections to keep freshness to the range.

As a new fan of their range, I had the pleasure of meeting Sanne Sehested Nielsen, who heads up the team behind the designs, at BT2 yesterday and got to ask her about the label:

How did the label come about?

I had a strong vision of the Gestuz girl before we began working on the first collection. I knew exactly what I wanted her to look like, so with Lene, we pulled together a team to start to grow this vision.

What are the strong looks for this AW10 collection?

Autumn is a subtle colour palette with black and navy being the strong colours and tones of lilac included in our leopard prints. Leather and Lycra is mixed together, luxury fabrics of washed silks in dresses and suede in our jackets and high necklines with short hemlines for a subtle sexy look.

What are the must-haves for this season?

A leather jacket, leather trousers especially lycra with leather, a great dress, the all important little black dress and some fantastic knitwear pieces.

Do you plan to expand into footwear?

We did design a shoe that was received really well, so for SS11 you will see a sexy 2 tone wedge.

What can we look forward to for the next collection?

Prints resembling dry drift wood, this wood theme will carry through with natural colours of browns, olives greens and tonal colours with the addition of peaches in there.

Where did the inspiration come from for the SS11 collection?

All our collections are inspired by travel; this collection’s inspiration is Morocco in the 60’s and 70’s. A lot of stars from this era holidayed in Morocco so we incorporated an Arabian feel to the collection.

What is the plan for Gestuz?

We want to really focus on our core clients. When we started off we were probably trying to cover too many customers, now we are really focused on who we appeal too and want to continue to enhance that.

For such nice fabrics in the collection the prices aren’t off the wall. One of my favourite pieces is this print maxi dress at about €300, and for an occasion, I think that’s pretty good.

Check out the rest of the collection at www.gestuz.com – it’s also available at Cyan boutique,Swan centre, Rathmines, Dublin 6 and on Asos.com.
