Top 5: Festival Essentials

By Siobhan Lam

With Glastonbury just over and Oxegen just around the corner, now is the perfect time to put together that elusive stylish-yet-practical festival outfit.

Taking Alexa Chung queen of festival cool, as my muse – I’ve found the ideal pieces for festival fun this season and luckily, they are all on sale. BARGAINS!

Nautical Stripes

Nautical stripes always look effortlessly chic and are ideal for messy festival antics. Urban Outfitters have a cute little scoop necked stripe tank top with pocket detail from their ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ range which has reduced from €33 to €12.

Culottes

Tuck this tank into the most adorable shorts of this season, navy culottes with gold button detail from fantastic label ‘Sugarhill Boutique’. Yes, you heard correctly, I said culottes. Despite vowing at the wise old age of 5 to never to wear culottes again, they seem to be everywhere this season and their blatant cuteness can no longer be denied.

Think about it…culottes look like a skirt but they aren’t, you can bend over without fear of flashing – result! These Sugarhill Boutique culottes were £35 and are now £28 and available from asos.com, ideally these can be worn now and right through autumn and into winter, just throw on a pair of black opaque tights underneath.

Clock pendant

Layer this with Urban Outfitter’s retro-inspired clock pendant, a practical way of looking fabulous and keeping a check on the time. This ‘Chunky Square Watch Necklace’ looks just as good worn to the front or back since the back exposes the detailed inner clogs of the watch, was €40 and is now €19.

Mischa Barton handbag

Top this combination off with an across-the-body strap bag – Mischa Barton’s handbag range is surprisingly impressive. In between school at R.A.D.A. and ‘acting’ in cancelled T.V. pilots, she finds the time to design some intricate and really beautiful pieces.

Her studded mini bag with ladybug clasp detail is on sale in Arnotts, reduced from €80 to €36. Granted it’s not going to hold too much but there’s enough room for the festival essentials – lip balm, cash and a sneaky flask.

Havaianas Flip Flops

And let’s not forget festival footwear, wellington boots are a given but flip-flops are just as important. The Havaiana’s flip flop range is the most comfortable in my humble opinion and BT2 currently have a ‘Make Your Own Havaianas’ service to give them that extra edge this festival season.

You can pick and choose how you want your Havaianas to look, from the colour of the soles to the type of strap used and from the very reasonable price of €20.

Roll on Oxegen!

Wow, funny because I went shopping for my Wireless Festival outfit on Saturday and it looks very similar to what you’ve described! I picked up the Truly Madly Deeply striped vest you mention (€12! Steal!) and will be teaming it with a tan-coloured skirt (also from Urban Outfitters sale), a gold clock necklace and an across-body bag. (Great stylists dress alike ha?)

Will be swopping the Havianas for a pair of beat-up brogues however; I have a tendency to jump around a lot at festivals and inadequate foot-protection usually results in some rather sorry looking toes….

That’s mad Rosa, well done! Youre right about the flip flops, you could get trampled on. There are some festival pics on Awears page and I’m up for winning tickets to castle palooza (plus a pink scooter!), if you’d like to make a comment on my pic please. you have to ‘like’ their page to leave a comment, thanks! No probs if you cant, it’s just while we were talking about festival style
