Fashionista File

Last Saturday 16 January, the lovely AnnMarie O’Connor from Iblogfashion interviewed me for her column (it’s more like a two page spread) in the Irish Examiner Weekend Magazine.

Seeing as WhatSheWears.ie is about what other people wear, I thought I’d share something about me for a change!

Fashionista File: Anne Marie Boyhan, Editor, WhatSheWears.ie

What are you wearing today?
A red shift dress, tights by Wolford, Ash ankle boots and a necklace designed by my sister. I love wearing strong primary colours in classic shapes.

How much did it cost?
Coast dress €110, Ash boots €170, tights €40 so in total €320.

What do you love most about it?
I feel elegant in red, it suits my Irish colouring. I prefer a little red dress over a black one any day!

Who is your fashion icon?
Scarlett Johansson. She dresses for her figure yet looks on trend through updating classic pieces with of the moment accessories. I love Sienna Miller too but I’d find it hard to pull off her boho look.

Which designers do you admire?
I love the fact that some big name designers are now making their pieces more accessible by collaborating with high street shops like H&M – Matthew Williamson and Jimmy Choo were two big moments for me last year (2009). The former was a once off delivery so it gives you that exclusive feeling that a designer piece should do.

What is the last thing you bought?
A black cropped leather jacket from Jimmy Choo for H&M (€200). It was worth the queue. (See previous question!). It’s so soft as it’s made from 100% lamb nappa.

What was your biggest splurge?
A pair of Terry de Havilland wedges for €450. They give me 5 inches more in height and I wear them heaps during the summer so it makes the cost per wear a bargain at this stage. They were my wedding shoes!

What is your best bargain buy? I saw a silk jersey dress in the window of a charity shop recently that made me stop in my tracks. They wouldn’t sell it to me until two days later when they changed the window display. I was back 48 hours later when they opened at 10am – imagine my joy when it fit me and turned out to be Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti! €10.

Where do you like to shop?
Zara, Mango and Massimo Dutti for their tailored look. I try and get to Spain once a year for big items like winter coats and boots –there’s a chain of shops there called Blanco which I love for funky skirts, shirts and dresses.

What has been your biggest fashion faux pas? Wearing browns, beige and tan colours. I lived in Madrid for 5 years and dressed like the locals but in hindsight those colours are awful on me.
