Recently, WSW checked out the spa at Farnham Estate in Cavan.
Coincidentally I’d been there exactly a year ago, for my best friend’s hen party, which I helped organise. I hadn’t ventured near the spa that time but found the staff to be really helpful with all our secret (from the bride-to-be that is) requests leading up to our night’s stay, dinner and shenanigans in a private room we’d booked to embarrass the “hen”. We’d shared twin rooms on that visit – all modern and contemporary in style with a chocolate brown and cream coloured theme.
This time around however, my visit was completely different and I discovered a different side to the hotel and its facilities that I hadn’t explored before. I brought along my other half, Mr. M and we were treated to a “period” suite in the old wing of the house which was bigger than our entire apartment! You can check out the room here and I’ll let this video below (2 mins) do the talking.
Farnham Estate Spa
As for the spa, I signed up for the 90 minute Farnham Signature Treatment (€120). I normally run a mile away from massages but as this one was not just a body rub – it involved a Yon-Ka Éclat Cocoon facial, foot soak and exfoliation as well as a lower back and leg massage massage – so I was willing to give it a go.
I was so glad I did as my legs were pretty weary from a run I’d done a few days beforehand and my legs felt revived and refreshed after the foot soak and leg massage, where the oils are massaged into the skin using hot stones (which promotes circulation I’m told).
The spa uses Yon-ka products which are made up of five pure essential oils – lavender, cypress, rosemary, thyme and geranium – each with their own skin healing qualities. I was so impressed with the treatment that I bought a hydrating face mask “Masque No1” to keep me going in the comfort of my own home (€40).
While Mr M road-tested the gym (roomey with all the equipment you’d expect from a hotel gym, with views of rolling green hills, I’m told), I tried out the pool – there’s an indoor pool and an outdoor infinity pool, the latter I had all to myself and swimming in the rain never felt so good!
So whether you’re a couple, a group of spa-going girls or a chilled out hen party (there’s golf there too but needless to say I didn’t try it), I think you’ll come away from Farnham Estate with the same feel good experience as I did – just make sure to book your spa treatments in advance to avoid disappointment as it seems to get pretty booked up.

WSW was a guest at Farnham Estate (but she paid for the face mask herself!).
