Inspired By: Eat Pray Love

If you’re one of the few people left who haven’t read Eat, Pray, Love, then here’s what you need to know and what you’ll find out in the movie, which will be released in Irish cinemas this Friday, 17 September 2010.

The book, which outsold every book in 2007 except Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Secret, sparked a movie starring Julia Roberts with a Florence and the Machine soundtrack; and is the true memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert’s year of soul-searching travel after a divorce, followed by a rebound relationship.

On her travels, she swops antidepressants for pleasure, spiritual awakening, and love,  first by indulging in Italy (think Italian lessons with the young Giovanni plus copious amount of ice cream ); then by meditating at an ashram in India; and finally by finding love in Bali.

In the film adaptation of the book, Roberts proclaims that she needs to “take a breather to deal with herself” – and goes off to do just that. And even if you don’t agree with the cheesiness of it all, the basic message rings clear for most – the search for some peace of mind and knowing what you want in life.

Julia Roberts Eat Pray Sleep New York Premiere

At the New York Premiere of the movie, Julia Roberts wore a black Stella McCartney blazer,  Diane von Furstenberg shorts, Roger Vivier sandals and Coomi jewellery (pictured).

Then for the Japanese premiere of the movie in Tokyo, Julia ditched the black in favour of a floral Dries Van Noten dress from the aw 2010 collection, Jamie Wolf earrings and green Celine ankle strap wedges .

We’re certainly inspired by the movie – especially the places visited in the book,  (we haven’t yet done the ashram thing in India  – share your story with us if you have!).

So today we take you to Florence, Italy, and all the indulgences that go with it. Click to keep reading: Style City Florence.

Love the Roger Vivier sandals she is wearing in that pic!

  2. Orla Says:

I love Julia Roberts especially when she is rocking her red hair a little more that in the picture above.
I also read an interview with her at the weekend in the Times and she is such a likeable person. And none of what she said seemed at all contrived.
Really need to read that book. Tried before but wasnt feeling it!

yes defimitely need to be in the mindset to read it.. that and the Secret . the book!

Ubud, where they film is set in Bali is just amazing and I can understand that she found her soul/peace there – surrounded by temples/monks/mountains.. and so peacful – a far cry from our negative equity and rising taxes.. so well worth a visit just for that alone !

Have to say I really really loved the book. Feel nervous about seeing the film though because films never can quite match the book imo, and I don’t want to come out of it feeling disappointed. It’s funny how others didn’t enjoy the book but I agree with the comment which says you have to be in a certain mindset to kind of ‘get it’. The kind of mindset that makes you feel you need to make changes in your life!
