Davey Davey

I’m always entering competitions.  Aged 12 I entered a radio competition on the John Creedon show on RTE Radio 1, where I answered questions on air and won myself a weekend away at the Killarney Great Southern Hotel, thus beginning my love affair with staying in nice hotels.

But I haven’t won a competition since – that was until last month, when, after being tipped off by my sister to enter, I won a €100 voucher on Davey Davey’s Facebook page! I finally got to try it out this weekend.

Located on Drury Street, brothers Ian and Paul Davey opened Davey Davey hair salon eight months ago (they previously ran their own Toni & Guy franchise) and have been winning awards and styling shoots on the fashion pages of Image, Social & Personal, OK Magazine and the Independent every since.

The chocolate brown and cream interiors of the boutique salon is spread over two floors with room for 10 clients at a time – deliberately done so, Paul tells me, so that they can spend more time with each customer and not churn people in and out like a cattle mart.

€100 got me a cut and blow dry with Davey Davey’s top stylist and salon co-founder – Paul Davey. Upon arrival, he whisked me upstairs to a calm consultation room, where I sipped a cup of peppermint tea while we had a chat about what I’d like to have done.

I’m at that in-between phase of growing out a short cut and aiming for a long bob; or lob as Davey Davey call it and so gladly went along with Paul’s suggestions as to how to grow it out without taking away from its current lengh.

Then it was off downstairs to have my hair washed and conditioned while my feet were propped up as I sank into a massive leather chair which gave me the best back massage ever, and truth be told, I didn’t want to get up once my hair was washed.

A quick tidy up of my existing style with a subtly added fringe later and I am well on my way to my new LOB. I can’t wait. And I think I may have found my new go-to hair salon in the process. Thank you Davey Davey!
