There’s been some controversy around Victoria Beckham’s new career as a dress designer but we have to say that we at whatshewears.ie love this collection! The collection is made up of ten dresses which, oddly enough, are numbered from one to ten. These instant curve maximisers, with a below the knee hemline, come in couture-type fabrics like taffeta, organza and silk. The oh-so-chic collection conjures up images of Audrey Hepburn days of elegant style.
Roland Mouret helped with the collection. Posh describes it as “a range that encapsulates a new timeless style of dressing. Each garment is a testament to a love of fashion and the female form. Every dress has been handmade in the UK”.
dVb Spring/Summer 2009 goes on sale in March on net-a-porter.com, who is the exclusive online stockist. However, the collection is now even more covet-able as we got in contact with net a porter.com and were informed that the pre-reservations list is already oversubscribed! Email fashionadvisor@net-a-porter.com if you wish to be contacted if any pieces become available. In the meantime salivate over these:
1. Dress # 4 “Frejus” (Between £650 and £1,900) Pictured here on Victoria Beckham herself, Frejus also comes in a black and navy combination. The dress is composed of a tie neck blouse and a fitted skirt and has a fancy, visible zip the whole way down the back.
2. Dress # 8 “Orthez” (Between £650 and £1,900) In the February issue of W Magazine, Madonna wore this dVb dress. It’s also the exact dress Victoria wore to the Marc Jacobs fashion show recently. Good to see she is modelling her own designs!
3. Dress # 10 “Bidart” (Between £650 and £1,900) Posh proves her worth in other ways too. We think dVb dress number 10, with its removable corset and take on the kimono is bang on trend for 2009. Otherwise known as the dVb deep v sheath dress, is not yet available in Ireland. In the UK, pick up a dress from Victoria’s collection at Selfridges (+44 800 123 400) and Harrods (+44 297730 1234), though word on the street is that the London stores have already sold out too.
4. Dress # 3 “Minerve” (€953) Our favourite is dress number 3, “Minerve”. This new approach to a classic shift has a square neck, cap sleeves and also comes in one other “colour” – black and navy which is ideal for the career women amongst you or for that special occasion which requires a touch of class.
5. Bettie Page dress (€110) This recessionista take on the Minerve by dVb above is coveted so much by our editor that she bought it in black too! Bettie Page dress from Retro, 22 Market Arcade, Dublin (01 633 7891).
P.S If you see a dVb or lookalike dress stocked or worn in Ireland, please let us know! (Better still send us in the photo).
