In an article describing her personal style Olivia Palermo acknowledged the power of accessories particularly her love for cocktail rings. The socialite has an extensive collection of large decorative rings in her accessory arsenal which will no doubt be supplemented with fabulous gems from the Spanish jewellery brand Carrera y Carerra, who recently appointed her as their visual ambassador.
Made from precious or semi precious stones the term ‘cocktail ring’ was coined during the Prohibition era when a number of style conscious American ladies would wear big bold rings to illegal cocktail parties.
Dramatic sparkly rings have always been a favourite with the Hollywood set who regularly borrow multi million dollar baubles for red carpet events from celebrated jewellers such as Chopard, Fred Leighton and Kenneth Jay Lane.
For Autumn/Winter 2012 statement jewellery is a key fashion story with necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings all going super size but oversized cocktail rings are definitely one of our favourites.
Styling Tip for cocktail rings
When wearing jewellery don’t be tempted to over accessorise – remember less is more. Stick to one or two pieces at a time for a more polished look e.g. earrings and a ring, a watch and a pendant etc.
