Earlier This week Matteo Alessi launched the Peroni Design Awards at the opening of the exhibition Icons of Italian Design in The Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square, Dublin 2.

The national design competition, organised by Peroni Nastro Azzurro, is seeking to push the boundaries of excellence and design by challenging designers to create an original item to enhance the enjoyment of Peroni beer during a special occasion.

The competition will be judged by Matteo Alessi, of international design house Alessi, in conjunction with key members of the Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) and Design Week 2013 with the winner receiving a €2,000 cash prize.

The exhibition in The Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square,  Temple Bar, is free to attend and open until 18^th May.

Following on from the success of his recent International collections, leading Irish designer J.W. Anderson has embarked on a new collaboration with Opel Ireland. This time it was to mark the official launch of Opel’s new chic fashion accessory, the all new Opel ADAM city car.

The ADAM was unveiled at an exclusive fashion show featuring J.W. Anderson’s Spring Summer 2013 collection in the urban setting of The Hanover on Hanover Quay, Dublin 2 on Thursday evening. To mark the launch of this brand new car in Ireland, J.W. Anderson designed his very own vibrant wrap in comic strip style for the ADAM.

Entertaining guests at the event were two live graffiti artists, who brought the walls of The Hanover to life with their personal take on ADAM. Among the guests were Opel ADAM ambassador, model Rozanna Purcell; Louis Walsh; designer Deborah Veale; model Sarah Morrissey; and RTE’s Sinead Kennedy and Nuala Carey.

We popped along to Town Kildare Street this week for the exclusive launch of Dublin’s newest modern Irish brasserie.

Avant-garde artist Guggi, together with The Gate’s Michael Colgan and interiors impresario Michael Mortell attended the restaurant opening alongside Morah Ryan, Robbie and Martina Fox, Norah Casey , who were treated to a delicious three course lunch as we savoured a sample of the all-new Town Kildare Street.

A high-end casual restaurant, Town offers a delicious culinary experience, with quality food, excellent wine and fantastic value that is sure to whet everyone’s appetite. Top foodies Myles McWeeney, Ernie Whalley, Corinna Hardgrave, Raymond Blake and Gillian Nelis were all on hand to try out the new menu; their discerning palettes delighted by the culinary expertise of the team at Town.

2FM’s Louise Heraghty, 1st Options model agent Trish Fallon and FM104’s CEO Margaret Nelson ensured that fashion was firmly on the menu at this exclusive launch, as Town Kildare Street is firmly set to be Dublin’s fashionable new hot spot. Also raising the fashion stakes were Gill Ronan and her daughter Zoe, Claire Ronan, Emma Copolla and Charlotte Bradshaw.

What We Ate: Pan fried Hake followed by a scrumptious rhubarb dessert (see main image above)

Who We chatted To: We talked cricket jumpers and Wine Port Lodge with The Restaurant’s John Healy and suits with Town’s General Manager, Jaime Belton, who told us that his team includes Cathal Leonard, former Head Chef at Chapter One, and Conor O’Dowd, ex Sous Chef at Locks Brasserie.

The iconic Fashion Targets Breast Cancer T-shirt was launched with aplomb at Brown Thomas Dublin last week in an event MC’d by Jennifer Maguire, while DJ Michelle Doherty was dishing out the girl power tunes on the decks.

The T-shirt incorporates the  logo which is located on the lower right side of the T-shirt. It was designed by Ralph Lauren in memory of his late friend Nina Hyde, The Washington Post columnist who died of breast cancer.

The Fashion Targets Breast Cancer T-shirt will be sold for €30 in Brown Thomas Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway and BT2 Grafton Street, Dundrum and Blanchardstown Shopping Center from Thursday, April 18^th 2013. All proceeds raised will go to the Irish Cancer Society and Europa Donna Ireland.

Fashion lovers turned out for the Irish Fashion Exposure Spring Summer show recently, spending the afternoon soaking up the latest in fashion design along with a delicious lunch and entertainment while sipping bubbly, all while raising funds for the Order of St. Lazarus Ireland.

A number of Irelands leading designers, including John Rocha, Philip Tracy, Roisin Linnane and Claire O’Connor showed in co-operation with Aishling Kilduff of the Design Centre in Powerscourt Shopping Centre who has always been at the forefront of Irish fashion.

Attendees included Kathryn Thomas (wearing a Roisin Linnane dress and obi belt from Umit Kutluck at The Design Centre), Nuala Carey, designer Roisin Linnane and Fiona Foy Holland, who organised the event.

Last week we popped along to the Cliff Townhouse to meet fashion designer John Rocha who has teamed up with Specsavers to unveil his first collection of designer frames.

Part of the designers at Specsavers stable, the John Rocha range includes 13 contemporary designs to suit the modern woman. Frames come in petrol blue, indigo, purple and berry red tones in a combination of metal and acetate to make the glasses a true fashion statement.

Our favourites are a pair of burgundy frames (ref ref: 25634877), which we wore in this picture above with John.

Each frame features subtle “John Rocha” branding on one side and a criss cross or lace pattern on the other, just like  the patterns seen on his crystal.

John, who recently showed his AW13 collection at London Fashion Week, said “I’m so excited about designing glasses. Eyewear is now a desirable fashion accessory; I felt it was really important to create a collection which was wearable yet stylish”.

Over 120 stylish supporters attended the IYF’s fundraising event to raise vital funds for ‘The Robert Emmet Homework Club’ in Dublin 8.

Upon arrival at No. 27 Bar & Lounge, which witnessed its first ever fashion show in the Bar’s long history, a jazz band entertained guests including  sports analyst Brent Pope as well as RTE’s Nuala Carey and stylists Darren Kennedy, Courtney Smith and Lorna Weightman.

Brown Thomas showcased their new spring womenswear and menswear collections during the afternoon which included outfits by Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana and Erdem for the ladies with Tom Ford, Canali, Hugo Boss and Gucci to name but a few for the gentlemen.

What They Drank: Absolut Vodka

What They Ate: a delicious two course brunch

Which Outfit We loved Most: Stylist Courtney Smith (pictured above econd from right) . Her red peplum top  is stunning– we’ve discovered that it is from Bow and Pearl boutique!

Stylist and fashion editor Caroline Issa  presented her playful shoe and handbag collection for British brand L.K. Bennett to shoppers and fashion press in Brown Thomas recently.

Inspired by Caroline’s trips to Thailand, the pieces reflect her own style aesthetic.

Show stopping shoes include Thai embroidery, neon, pom-poms and oriental flowers with styles ranging in shoe boots, kitten heels, loaders, sandals and clutch handbags.

Last Monday saw WhatSheWears  attend the Paul Costelloe capsule collection launch in Arnotts department store (to see the collection click here) .

Guests were entertained by orchestral trio Affinití and later treated to an intimate fashion shoe where the Irish Designer talked attendees through his 25 piece collection (which you can see in full here).

Costelloe’s collection for Spring Summer 13 can take a lady from lunch with the girls to a wedding or a day at the races and we especially like his take on tailored suits.

We recently popped along to an exclusive preview of the M&S Spring Summer 2013 collections, which are now available to purchase in-store and online.

Always guaranteed to find something we like (we’re currently wearing a Peter Pilotto looking print dress from M&S) and scouting for new ways to wear this seasons trends,  our favourite pieces for spring include a red trouser suit, a red 60’s swing coat and a snakeskin dress and suit.

Look out for M&S shoes this season – their pumps are cute and they have Nude shoes (€27) almost identical to the LK Bennett Sledge, as worn by Kate Middleton.

A cup of coffee, muesli smoothie and a Leighton Denny manicure later and it was time to meet some fashion and lifestyle press.
