Georgia lit up the red carpet in a red Roberto Cavalli dress and as the face of Rimmel; her makeup look came together with:

Skin: Rimmel’s 9in1 BB Cream in Light made her skin look camera ready while her natural fresh face look was then complemented with a light summer glow on her cheekbones using Rimmel’s Natural Bronzer.

Eyes: Jagger’s eyes were accentuated with Rimmel’s Glam’Eyes Quad Eye Shadow in Smokey Brun to give a subtle touch of highlight to her eyelids, and finished with a coat of Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Flex Mascara in Black.

Lips: We love a red lip and Giorgia’s statement red lip was created with Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Big Bang Red 004 (€7.95), which we raved about in our March Beauty Picks.

Nails: Rimmel Salon Pro with Lycra polish in Rock n Roll (€6.45). This salon ready nail polish just hit the shelves last month and is currently our favourite polish here at WhatSheWears.ie.

The Great Gatsby look perfected and personified.

If you were following WhatSheWears on Instagram recently, you may have seen the photos of my new HD brows, which I was treated to at Empower studio.

Empower Studio is located on Dublin’s South William Street and is headed up by rising Irish makeup star, Aisling Powell.

It’s the first time that Ive had HD brows done and what with all the fuss over Kate Middleton and how to get the perfect brow, I was up totally up for some “new” brows.

HD brows are the latest must-have eyebrow treatment, with celebrities such as The Saturdays swearing by the seven step procedure. It involves a patch test 24 hours before you get it done and then on the day it starts with eyebrow tinting (Aisling Powell customises the tint colour to suit you), waxing and threading. It takes an hour-for the consultation to create the ultimate in High Definition brows.

I loved the result and what surprised me most about it is that during the threading part, Aisling also threaded above the brow line – something that a lot of beauty therapists daren’t do.

The result was a clean, defined and darker “power brow” which I’ve been complemented on.

I’ve included the end result of what I looked like above right and of another lady who I met at Empower’s official opening on the bottom left – she was delighted with the result, as she had said that with blonde hair, her brows were barely visible before the treatment. There are lots of “after” shots of others on Empower Studio’s Facebook page too.

Price: HD Brows cost €70. Check for offers on Empower Studio’s Facebook page. They are currently running #wowbrow Wednesday: Tweet @EmpowerStudio a time (12,1,2,3 or 4) with the hashtag #wowbrow, and if you’re first to pick that time , you get that HD Brow appointment at that time on Wednesday for just €15!

Spring is the perfect time to give the perfumes in your life a spring clean.

Swap the heavier, muskier scents of winter for something “green”, fresh and crisp with the following scents which are themselves just hitting the shops.
So without further ado, we bring you our edit of this season’s new perfumes.

Pictured From Left to Right: See by Chloe, Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom, L’ Occitane Thé Vert & Bigarade

See By Chloé

When fashion designers take to making perfume the results are usually sublime and See by Chloe is no exception. A tangy lemon scent hits you first before pear, apple blossom and jasmine appear, only to be finished with soft vanilla and sandalwood.

Available: Now at Harvey Nichols, Arnotts, Debenhams and select pharmacies nationwide. 30ml €49.50. 50 ml €62.20

Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom

This Limited Edition perfume is a “ soft green” scent, where petitgrain and peach meet orange flower and cashmere wood. Even the white flower etchings on the bottle are a thing of beauty. Tip: Layer with Blackberry & Bay to add an even greener depth to your scent.

Available: 1st May from Jo Malone counters Brown Thomas & Dublin airport. Osmanthus Blossom Collection Cologne 30ml £38 / €46, Cologne 100ml £76 / €92

L’ Occitane Thé Vert & Bigarade

This perfume left us dreaming of summer holidays in the South of France with a collection that’s inspired by Grasse, the world’s perfume capital, located in sunny Provence. One of four perfumes from the Collection de Grasse, Thé Vert & Bigarade is A unisex scent that’s both citrusy (Bigarade) and calming (green tea).

Available: Now at L’Occitane shops Liffey Street, Wicklow St and Dundrum T. C, Dublin. 75 ml, €60

What will you be adding to your fragrance wardrobe at this time of year?

Our Editor Anne Marie Boyhan discovers this month’s best beauty buys from Oprah’s go-to moisturiser to a rejuvenating potion for all sleeping beauties.

Philosophy Hope in a Jar

Hope in a Jar is the best-selling moisturiser that is like giving your face a drink of water. The skincare range is known to not only make your skin brighter, but, with its words of wisdom on the packaging, your spirits too. Oh and it’s Oprah Winfrey’s moisturiser of choice too!

Available at Philosophy, Arnotts. Price €42.50

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Lotion

Getting your bare legs ready to wear skirts and dresses is a top priority for many and Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Lotion helps do just that. Its new liquid leg makeup (previously only available as a spray) covers freckles, veins and imperfections and comes in four shades to suit every skin tone – the light shade is our fave. It’s matte and washes off when you’re done.

Available in selected pharmacies nationwide. Price €16.95

Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover

Eye make-up is increasingly made to be more long-wearing and resistant which is why make-up removers need to keep up. That’s exactly why Clarins have reformulated their best-selling Instant Eye Make-Up Remover which now quickly removes waterproof and heavy make-up, even the most stubborn kind.

Available at Clarins Brown Thomas. Price €22.50

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Not a new product as such but a recent discovery and skin lifesaver for us. Pat on 2-3 drops before going to sleep and this serum gets to work on replenishing the lipids in the skin. The result? Softer, refreshed looking skin which is visible the very next morning. It’s great for when you’ve been burning the candle at both ends and will have people commenting on your skin. In a good way!

Available at Kiehls Wicklow Street, Kiehls Dundrum Town Centre and Kiehls Arnotts. Price €42.50

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

This new cult product has the colour intensity of a lipstick with the satin smooth shine of a gloss. You can “try it on” virtually and see which shade suits you best on Rimmel’s website ! It comes in seven stunning shades – our favourite is Big Bang, a rich red.

Available from pharmacies nationwide. Price €7.95

<g:plusone size="medium" count="" href="http://www.whatshewears.ie/microdermabrasion-colonic-at-renew/"></g:plusone>

I used January as a month to detox. Yes, I jumped on the “New Year New You” bandwagon and started on January 1st by eliminating coffee, booze and chocolate from my diet. This first 10 days I was good, but after that some chocolate “crept back in” and I had wine at the weekend – isn’t there something about having a drink after work on a Friday that says “hello weekend”?.

Caffeine free

My dry January was short lived but I did stay off the coffee and had decaffs and herbal teas instead. I’ve tried green tea and find the taste awful, but have discovered that Twinning’s do a Green Tea with Pineapple that’s actually quite drinkable.

I’ve been trying out some smoothies too. The Green Goddess smoothie (here’s the recipe) is one which Dita Von Teese raves about and it’s actually quite filling.

Colonic

To really boost the detox, I signed up for the Face and Body Detox at Renew Aesthetic Clinic , located off Dublin’s Baggot Street. It’s a private clinic run by two qualified nurses and which specialises in laser hair removal, microdermabrasion and Icoone, the latest hi-tech treatment for cellulite that Gwyneth Paltrow uses.

The colonic was first and because I knew what to expect (I did one about six years ago), it went well but to some the idea of having a tube inserted up your bum to wash out your intestine is not the most appealing of experiences. On the plus side it does leave you feeling lighter, with a flatter tummy and a better working digestive system which alleviates ailments such as constipation and bloating . Some say that it’s great for weight loss and although you’ll be a few pounds lighter having eliminated so much waste, it’s your empty bowel that’s better able to absorb nutrients which is a great basis for weight loss that works.

Microdermabrasion

For the microdermabrasion, Sinead, the nurse looking after me that day, got to work on a deep skin exfoliation using a Diamond-Chip wand (pictured above left) which gently polished away the top layer of skin to reveal a smooth complexion underneath. There was some redness on the face afterwards which goes overnight but seeing as my skin was quite dull beforehand, the results were instantly visible and my skin brighter.

New Year, New Skincare

To keep up the good skincare regime for 2013, I bought the Image cleanser (€30 sold at Renew Aesthetic Clinic) which is a stellar product due to its main ingredient, Glycolic acid. Makeup artist Leonard Daly once told me that “If you invest in this skincare it will change your life (well your skin!)” and explained that skincare with Glycolic acid is great for anti-ageing, texture resurfacing and minimising pigmentation (you can read the full explanation on his Beauty Baked blog ). You do get a bit spotty for the first few days using it (for me it was at least a week)– it’s the ingredients getting rid of your skin’s impurities – but Leonard says to bear with it as your skin will come right in the end.

The Ultimate Face and Body Detox at Renew is €200 for two Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments and two Medical Microdermabrasions.

Renew Aesthetic Clinic, Hatch St, Dublin 2. Tel 01 – 661 9261 RenewClinic.ie . Renew also has a clinic in 7 Basin St., Naas, Co Kildare, Tel 045 901111

Here’s a run-down of the hottest catwalk make-up and beauty trends for spring summer 2013.

Two contrasting beauty looks dominate this Spring-feminine and pretty or strong and bold.

Fresh glowing skin provides the perfect canvas for experimenting with either vivid lip colours or dramatic eye shades. Recreate the runway looks by highlighting eyes with blue as seen at the Versus show or try a statement scarlet pout as seen at Jason Wu.

Eyebrows are full and perfectly defined while eyes are enhanced with pencil and mascara for a neutral or smoky finish. Silver eyeshadow worn with plenty of black eyeliner was huge at Chanel SS13 which was balanced out with nude lips.

Pink

Pink is a key colour in lips (fuchsia pink was the colour on the lips at Giles Deacon – worn with no eye makeup) while pink pops up in blushers, powders and fresh floral fragrances replace heavy scents.

Nails

Nails go nude for spring summer 13 and the go to polish to get this look? Maybelline’s Color Show in Coral Reefs.

Which one of these spring trends will you be wearing?

Finding good makeup that stays in place and looks good without changing consistency or coverage can be a case of trial and error and with so many on the market it’s hard to know which one to choose.

Irish makeup artist Ken Boylan tried many but never found what he was looking for, so he came up with his own make-up collection, Ken Boylan MakeUp/Play.

The result is a high quality, affordable range of makeup and brushes, which aim to help women to find the right product for their colouring and skin type. Best sellers are primers that are soft and satin, liquid foundation that is comfortable and light, a colour pot cream blusher and intense lash mascara and lipsticks galore.

We’ve tried and tested the high definition foundation (think Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, except at a better price point – €30!) and the lipstick in de Havilland shade, which is a wonderful, matte lippie that is flattering for daytime and lavished in Vitamin E.

Ken Boylan MakeUp/Play is available at DocMorris Donnybrook, DocMorris Omni Centre and DocMorris Mullingar and the Ken Boylan store at 22 Drury St, Dublin 2. kenboylan.com. Tel 01 679 60 60. Makeup application with lashes is €45.

Competition

To celebrate this delightful discovery, we’ve teamed up with Ken to offer one lucky reader and a friend a makeover and pedicure at Ken Boylan’s store on Drury Street. There, you will both be treated to a makeup application using MakeUp/Play products and a Jessica manicure each. What a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day or a day out with a girlfriend!

<del>To enter, simply name the MakeUp/Play product you’d most like to try (you can read all about them on kenboylan.com ) in the comments below.</del>

<g:plusone size="medium" count="" href="http://www.whatshewears.ie/laser-eye-surgery-%e2%80%93-to-be-or-not-to-be/"></g:plusone>

That is the question.

I’ve worn glasses since the age of 16, when one day in Irish class during my leaving cert year, I was sitting at the back of the class and couldn’t make out the writing on the blackboard.

I went for some eye tests in Specs avers to find out that I was short sighted and needed glasses to drive, watch TV and other such “far away” viewing. I’ve continued with Specsavers over the years for eye tests and contact lense prescriptions and wear a gorgeous pair of Missoni frames during the day and contacts on nights out.

I often toy with the idea of having laser eye surgery done. Why? I’m sometimes caught squinting (which makes me look like an old woman, gives you wrinkles and is NOT a good look in general ) or simply blanking people on the street or at events ‘cos I simply can’t see them if I’m not wearing my glasses or contacts. Plus if I’m totally honest, I look better “sans spectacles”.

A few of my friends have had laser eye surgery done to improve their vision and rave about the benefits – how bad can being glasses and contacts free forever be?

The only thing that’s holding me back is a) the cost and b) the fact that the procedure slightly scares the hell out of me. Laser eye surgery costs up to €1990 which is the kind of money I don’t have lying around and the fact that my mum has had lots of problems with one of her eyes and plenty of surgeries to fix it (and gone through lots of pain as a result) are two reasons that are holding me back.

However, I read recently that Poppy Disney, one of my all time favourite fashion bloggers and founder of WIWT.com, the UK’s largest outfit sharing site, has had the procedure done with Optical Express in Harley Street, London. Optical Express also has clinics in Ireland, to find where, visit them here.

She describes laser eye treatment in a thorough and entertaining way, as only she can do and talks about it in this video above. She even makes wearing sunglasses during the day appealing, which is something that’s advised immediately after treatment.

So, I am nearly convinced but haven’t taken the steps to talk to a laser eye clinic yet, so would love to hear your thoughts if you have had it done.

What do you think of laser eye surgery? Have you had it done or would you recommend it? Is it painful?

<g:plusone size="medium" count="" href="http://www.whatshewears.ie/katy-perry-grammy-awards/"></g:plusone>

Above: Katy Perry’s make-up look from last night’s Grammy Awards, courtesy of Jake Bailey for Rimmel London

Katy Perry stole the show at last night’s Grammy Awards, topping the Best Dressed Lists with her retro, Priscilla Presley-inspired look. Resplendent in a revealing floor-length Gucci dress, her bronzed eyes and nude lips stood out amongst a sea of bold red lips and heavy lashes.

Getting Katy’s look is really achievable and economic too as Rimmel London was Katy’s make-up of choice for the music industry’s biggest calendar event.

Jake Bailey, Rimmel’s top make-up artist shared this step-by-step guide to achieving the look:

1) Begin by using Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Black to define the lashline and then Rimmel Glameyes Trio Eye Shadow in Orion to contour them, before finishing off the eyes with a rich coat of Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Black.

2) For a perfect base, mix Rimmel’s BB Cream with Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation. The BB cream sheers the foundation out and gives it a little glow – perfect for the red carpet or any other event! Top off with a dusting of Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in Pink Rose on the apple of her cheeks to warm the complexion.

3) And finally, line the lips with Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Tiramisu, before topping off with a slick of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in #003.

Simple as, who else will be rocking this Priscilla Presley-inspired make-up?

The week began with a birthday party for my sister Angela, which we celebrated in Vintage Cocktail Club. It’s one of Dublin’s newest venues which is clad in vintage furniture and an opulant 1920′s style cocktail bar. The food was to die for – we had the canape menu which consisted of lots of heavenly small bites, such as these mini slices of cheesecake.

Press days included a trip to Dundrum Town Centre to visit Harvey Nichols where their fashion director Paula Reed (formerly of Grazia) was over from the UK to talk us through their spring summer collection, which focuses on occasion wear. I’ve spoken about the dress brands that they’ve got there before (you can read the article here) – favourites include Philip Armstrong who designed dresses for Cheryl Cole while she was on the XFactor and Catherine Deane maxi dresses, as worn by Khloe Kardashian.

It’s great to see Harvey Nichols finally supporting Irish designers too, with hats by Edel Ramberg and coats and dresses by Fee G - both designers are pictured in this image above too.

Three new concepts in beauty opened their doors in Dublin last week. Firstly, Marks & Spencer have branched in beauty with the opening of Your Beauty, a brand new beauty hall in Mary Street Dublin and soon-to-be-in M&S Grafton Street, Dundrum and Liffey Valley. The focus is on niche science-meets-skincare products from the US, France & Italy with many vegan, organic and wonder products such as Nuxe gracing the aisles. See our party pictures from the launch here.

Secondly, LA Creative have opened a new one stop beauty emporium and shop located in the most beautiful of glass fronted buildings on Dublin’s Chatham Street – you can’t miss it! For the opening, Kim Menzies (Alesha Dixon’s hair stylist – who also teaches beauty at LA Creative) showed us how to get this season’s 60′s make-up look on model Roz Purcell, pictured above. It’s a great place to get your makeup or tan done, have a mani pedi or even a bit of botox if you are that way inclined (they have a doctor present for such treatments three days a week). LA Creative, Chatham St, Dublin 2.

Finally, Empower Studio not only specialise in hair and make-up but they are Dublin’s premier high fashion creative agency, working with brands on many fashion and beauty related projects. Launched by make-up artist Aisling Powell, the studio is perfectly located above Project 51 on South William Street, where Aisling and her team of artists offer high fashion and bridal makeup and the most fabulous HD brow treat, emt, which I had done during their open day (see pic above).

Their Feburary and March offers are phenomenal so if you’ve got some brows to tame or need a makeup touch up, check them out. Empower Studio, 51 South William Street, Dublin 2 www.empowerstudio.ie . P.S. You can win a HD brows treatment on WhatSheWears.ie this week, see here for details.

Wednesday was a miserable day where I got rained on A LOT while going from A to B but after a quiet January, it was worth making the effort to go an evening bash in the Radisson penthouse on Golden Lane, hosted by Pandora. There we were treated to sparkling Rose wine, chicken skewers and fluffy coconut desserts which reminded me of “snowballs” from years ago.

The best part of the night was the announcement that Pandora have collaborated with Girls Aloud, where Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberly and Sarah have all designed a Pandora bracelet. They’re on sale in Pandora stores from now until St. Patrick’s Day, the date of the Girls Aloud concert in Dublin. Nicola’s design is by far my favourite, see it in the picture above centre.

I spotted a 25% off sale on M&S Facebook page and so took the opportunity to buy this Peter Pilotto-esque print dress, which I’d had my eye on. It was my first time ordering online from marksandspencers.ie and the package arrived in 4 days just as the site had promised and luckily the dress fitted perfectly.

One of the things I love to do when I can afford it, is eat out in Dublin, so when I discovered the Temptster app on Saturday in new eaterie Fade Street Social – it was a revelation. It’s a new real time booking app for last minute restaurant deals in Dublin.

The idea is that if a restaurant is not fully booked, or has had a cancellation or no show, it offers a large discount or complimentary dish or drink to customers who can fill that seat. And because it uses GPS technology, Temptster will only show you offers in your area. So you might even get a last minute table or a free drink on a Saturday night !

It’s twenty-one years since Burts Bees launched their wonderful Beeswax Lip Balm (€3.95 in chemists nationwide), and they sent me this personalised one to celebrate. A nice treat indeed.

Last but not least, I bumped into singer Paolo Nutini which was DEFINITELY the highlight of my week. You can read all about it here.
