Stylewatch: Cara Delevingne

Every year there is a model that climbs the ranks, going from up-and-comer to glorified supermodel. In 2012, it was Cara Delevingne.

Recognised for her piercing blue eyes and magnificent eyebrows, it is Cara’s downright kooky personality and propensity for pulling faces – not the model kind, mind – that has eased her ascension into the spotlight. Regularly pictured clowning around behind-the-scenes and in between shows, Cara has shown that she doesn’t take herself too seriously – just look at her Instagram feed.

As Cara’s career has skyrocketed – she has campaigns for Burberry and Chanel under her belt and has just become the face of DKNY for 2013 – so too have her style credentials. Her look is a combination of what she has picked up in her few years on the international scene and her own innate sense of style. Needless to say, we love a good style transformation!

So how do you get the Cara Delevingne look?

For her model off duty look, Cara likes a good beanie hat. Her red beanie – pictured below – is from Supreme New York, which she wears with a Trapstar London t-shirt (she cut off the collar and sleeves) and a Burberry leather jacket.

For another take on Cara’s model-off-duty look, combine novelty cartoon characters with sleek leather trousers for tongue-in-cheek style.

Caras ‘Bart’ Cropped Jumper and skirt are from Jeremy Scott (it’s sold out but you can buy a similar one here). On the far right she wears a pair of mid-rise Skinny Jeans with Black Tuxedo Stripe from Rag and Bone, a beanie in blue from Supreme New York again and black high top trainers.

During Fashion Week, Cara’s style is frantically thrown-together, designed to withstand lurching from show to show on the back of a motorcycle. Pared back and minimal, this look is all about the little details, like her trademark beanie hat styled with colour-clash navy and black; or an oversized men’s tee with delicate lace shorts.

Cara likes to be comfortable and biker boots are often part of her look. Here on the left she wears them with her beloved black beanie, grey skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and her Burberry biker jacket again.

And for the glitziest of events, while there are stylists on-hand to facilitate all manner of looks, we get the distinct impression that Cara has the casting vote on how she’s dressed. Taking her appearance at the British Fashion Council’s Awards last November into consideration – donning a metallic green Burberry shift dress – Cara clearly follows her own rules when it comes to red carpet dressing. How does one do red carpet style like Cara Delevingne? Do it your own way!

For exact ways to get Cara Delevinge’s look, there’s a whole Tumblr blog dedicated to how to get her look.

A style icon in our eyes, what do you make of Cara’s style?
