Go-with-everything burgundy is this season’s hottest hue. From handbags to nail polish, leather trousers and shoes, it’s the new colour crush and I am officially obsessed.
Here are the burgundy bits and bobs I’ve been slowly adding to my wardrobe in the past few weeks. And if it’s not already in my wardrobe, it’s on my wish list!
Just be warned though, not all items below should be worn at once! Just one piece at a time. Though I did dare to wear the skull scarf, dress and lipstick all in one go recently – radical!
If you’d just like to dip your toe into this season’s hottest hue, why not try a scarf? Penney’s have a gorgeous Alexander McQueen skull scarf dupe (I am wearing it below), which is in store right now. (€4).
I’ve been hankering for a wine coloured dress and loved the Cosmo 1 style at Fran & Jane, but unfortunately, it swamped me too much. The search persisted and I found a Victoria Beckham style dress (pictured) – a fitted pencil skirt style – in Next (€59) - a place I haven’t shopped in in years. I’m glad to report that it fits like a glove and I’ve been asked the “where did you buy your dress” question by strangers the first night I wore it! Always a good seal of approval, right?
Leather trousers are a must-have for autumn winter 12. They usually only look good on skinny legs (which I am not the proud owner of) however, I am a firm favourite of wearing them with long shirts or jumpers so that they show from just above the knee downwards.
Topshop and Pennys currently have burgundy leather trousers and skirts in stock. I bought the Penney’s pants (€21) which have a neat zip detail at the ankle and like wearing them with black ankle boots and a long, batwing jumper.
Autumn winter 12 sees plenty of structure coming through in handbags, with the doctor’s bag being a key style. Marc by Marc Jacobs’ has a doctor handbag in a rich bordeaux which I am currently coveting and in the meantime,I dug up a berry coloured handbag from a few seasons ago.
I also spotted two more bags that I think you’ll like:
An easy way to dip your toe (forgive the pun) in this colour trend is with nail polish. NYC Color’s Expert Last Nail polish in Boundless Berry (€1.99/£2.49) is a recommendation that won’t break the bank.
Lips take on a vampy, gothic look this season. Personally, I don’t like my lippie too dark so will be opting for a brighter berry shade over a near-black hue. Clarins Rouge Prodige lipstick in Dark Cherry (€20.33) is a lippie which stays on for hours and looks good.
Is berry red a colour you’ll be wearing this autumn?Tweet
