It’s hard to switch into AW11 mode midsummer but we were dying to hear about which designer delights are due in store at Brown Thomas for next season so took a trip to their press show. The result? Glamour, colour, print, decadence, tailoring and minimalism for your AW11 designer wardrobe.
The collections felt vibrant and less your typical “autumn winter” looks than expected. Although black was ever present it wasn’t over bearing, thanks to the vibrant palette sitting alongside it.
Bold hues like magenta, raspberry, mustard, orange, emerald green and violet had a strong presence. Eclectic prints, polka dots and stripes were in force with checks taking centre stage in outerwear. Giambattista Valli’s inclusion of floral prints gave a refreshing twist to an autumn/winter collection.
We were excited to see the introduction of some new designers like Rachel Zoe and Tom Ford. Buying one of Tom’s dresses (€2970) may see you forego a holiday or two but his dress collection was worth waiting for and a tailored velvet dress of his finished the show with aplomb.
Perhaps the greatest delight was the arrival of uber cool French brand The Kooples, whose “couple” advertising has kept us enthralled for months now longing for the brand to reach these shoes. The Kooples have the masculine femin look off to a tee, and has the same prices in store as online which is a joy to see.
Our favourite looks of the day
Acne all the way: the mustard drop hip coat and skirt with leather leggings and chunky wedge boots, the grey shearling jacket and dress. A black and cream dress with tan and rhinestone belt from Vionnet also took our breadth away.
Alexander McQueen showed some beautiful tailored dresses, Dolce and Gabbana went for mixed prints, Roskanda Illincic chose orange and raspberry in her dresses and Gucci’s 40’s style looks were luxurious.

Style Tip: If your budget can’t stretch to these catwalk looks, try the high street…we’ve already seen a star print dress in Oasis.
