Ask the Stylist: Black Cords

I’d like to buy a pair of black boot cut cords, but no shops appear to be stocking them at the moment – I’ve tried the usual jeans shops, Levi’s shops, etc but no luck. Any idea where I could buy a pair?

Boot leg cuts make legs look longer and are kind to curves and are both flattering and feminine.

You’re correct in saying that there’s none around at the moment – these are more of an autumn winter staple and unfortunately for you the shops at the moment of full of new spring summer stock!

However, shops such as Dunnes Stores frequently stock this style – I got a pair there two years ago and spotted them again the following year.

Your best bet is to go online to buy your black chords.  Here are some suggestions:

Yoox.com is a great online resource for designer jeans which have been discounted so it’s worth paying the shipping costs to Ireland. They have boot cut, skinny leg, cropped and straight leg jeans and also cords. (you might have to search by corduroy).

A word or warning though – Because they are designer discount labels, the sizes left in stock can be odd, so getting the size and length you want is sometimes a case of luck!

Wrangler (£59 on Yoox) cords come in black or red up to 28″ waist, or Acne, a really cool Swedish brand I like, do a pair in blue or brown (£29 on Yoox).

Dyed Pretty (pictured) is a lovely label for boot leg cut cords (£55) up to a 32 inch waist.

J Brand black cords, (€139)
J Brand, a favourite of Hollywood actors, has a cool vintage looking pair reduced from €199 to €139 on Stylebop.com.

Marks and Spencer’s, Bootleg Corduroy Trousers, £15
And finally, a good old high street option. Available in black, brown, grey and khaki. It’s worth checking or ringing ahead to their Irish shops to check availability which will save you ordering online. They have various lengths too – choose from short, medium or long.

Let us know how you get on!
