
Vintage glamour won over the judges yesterday at the annual Ladies Day pilgrimage that is Galway Races.
The winner of the Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady Competition on Ladies Day at the Galway Races was Annmarie O’Leary from Camp, Tralee in Co. Kerry.
Ms. O’Leary who celebrates her 40th birthday today wore a vintage style ivory fitted dress with shoulder bow details by Karen Moriarty. The dress could be mistaken for a wedding dress from yesteryear and showed off AnnMarie’s svelte figure fabulously.
The piece the resistance however, was her hat – an antique sequinned, vintage inspired hat in bronze gold with chrysanthemums blooms, designed by Carol Kennelly, Milliner from Co. Kerry. Check out Carol’s hats on www.carolkennellymillinery.com .
A big supporter of local designers, AnnMarie was a finalist in the Best Dressed Lady competition at Killarney Races on July 15, again wearing a Carol Kennelly creation.
Judging this year’s competition were three of the best known names in the Irish fashion industry –Bairbre Power, Fashion Editor of the Irish Independent and Executive Editor of the Irish Independent Weekend magazine, model and XposĂ© presenter Glenda Gilson and PJ Gibbons, Editor, Social and Personal Magazine. Glenda wore a black Herve Leger body con dress, black fascinator and pashmina and towered over the Galway girls as she sashayed her way through the throngs of racegoers picking out forty “Best Dressed” finalists.
Mr. Anthony Ryan, Managing Director of Anthony Ryan Ltd who are this year celebrating 101 years in business was on hand in the Parade Ring to present Best Dressed Lady  AnnMarie O’ Leary with a magnificent prize of a one carat diamond solitaire pendant valued at €8,500, a shopping spree worth €1500 in Anthony Ryans, Galway and €1000 cash. She also received a corporate hospitality package for Galway Races October Bank Holiday Racing Festival and a Lancôme Presentation Gift Hamper worth over €500.

Sporting a black ring layered hat with red rose detail purchased by her sister in New York, Galway native Aoife Ryan was the winner of the Anthony Ryan’s Best Hat Competition. Aoife was presented with her prize of fashion shopping spree worth €1500 in Anthony Ryan’s Galway Mr. Ryan and his mother, Mrs. Breda Ryan.
